The one where I bought a kitchen

It was so cold in our bedroom last night (one of the coldest rooms in the house bar the loft) that I went to bed wearing a hat. It was a funny hat that Huffle said looked like a bag and kept laughing at me. Thankfully he didn't have his phone so we have no incriminating photos. Once I finally got warm and to sleep, I was cosy warm but did not want to get up this morning.

The temperature was -15* but with windchill felt like -26*. That's cold after all the warm weather we have been experiencing.

Pretty ice patterns, shame they at on the inside!

It was a struggle getting the kids ready this morning, not that I get them ready but I make breakfast and lunch and hurry them along. Poor Smallest's eye look horrible. He took a pirate eye patch with him to school for effect but not before he had me searching for his new gloves, two minutes before the school bus arrived!!!

Moo and I had a quick breakfast, dropped Small's tuba off at school and then drove to Ikea with the sole purpose of ordering our kitchen. We arrived at opening time (10am) and were one of the first to take advantage of the computers and helpful staff. Our kitchen adviser was Ryan who answered all my questions first of all, checked over the kitchen design, suggested a few bits and bobs and then sat and went through the whole list item by item. He added things like extra legs and took out things we didn't need and then got it checked by a co-worker. When he was satisfied with everything he asked me when we wanted it delivered and we agreed on tomorrow afternoon. WHAT. TOMORROW AFTERNOON? THAT SOON? Mr Basement, who is fitting the kitchen for us, is in Mexico at the moment sunning himself for his birthday. I did send him a message to warn him.

Bearing in mind there was a Kitchen Event on today whereby you get back a 10% gift card on anything you buy related to a kitchen, we did a deal with Ryan where we took off a few things so that we could spend our gift card back on the things we missed out. (I think that makes sense, well to me anyway). What it actually meant was that we took off the ceramic sink, tap and strainer and got a gift card back that we then purchased the sink, tap and strainer using the gift card. We still have about $9 left but I do have to visit the store in a few days to purchase two drawer fronts that weren't in stock. We walked around and around and around the shop many times. Once to get to the kitchens, then to get a coffee and to walk around the whole store again to pick up a few things and browse, to the check out to pay, then back to the kitchens to see if we could buy the additional things and get the same delivery, saving on delivery costs, then to the delivery department, to the checkout again and back to the delivery and then finally for a bowl of soup before heading home. All in all we did 9,000 Steps. That will help with my step counting for today.

....and as a little teaser, here is the brochure picture of the kitchen

At home we had enough time for a cup of tea, a check in with Huffle (who has had a very busy work day) before the kids came home. The school bus they were on broke down at the school blocking in various teachers including our piano teacher. The boys were home 15 minutes late and then ten minutes after they got home, I got an email telling me the bus had been delayed!!! Smallest had the results from two tests, no oth A+'s. He was very pleased, as was I. Him and Small told his classmates that over Chrostmas they were playing a game called knives and forks which they were throwing at each other and one of the forks got stuck in Smallest's eye, hence the patch. One of the boys was asking if he could see under the patch and Snallest kept telling him 'later'. Eventually he showed him. What a silly pair!

Piano lessons today were later but they both learnt new tunes. I signed both boys up for basketball again which starts next week.

We cobbled together a dinner of leftovers and afterwards played Pokemon Yahtzee and Skip-Bo.
