Moodles Noodles

We started the day with a game of UPSET and we ended the day with a game of UPSET!

In between we had a whole day up by the pool, in the pool, playing cards, reading, listening to music, playing DS and we had a BBQ dinner.

The temperature was 29* feeling like 36*. Fabulous but a little too warm to be in the sun so I made a Mummy shade by the pool out of a Dust Sheet which made some lovely respite from the sunshine.

Aunty A skyped us while we were in the pool Snorkelling. I stayed in the pool to speak to her, it was very funny. Eventually we lost the connection due to my phone overheating.

Once the boys were in bed we played table tennis. Moo beat me. Six weeks and she got me! She has beat me before but normally when I am hungry, tired, ill or some other excuse. Today I have no excuses, she just beat me fair and square. That's it - GO HOME!

Well done to Aunty A for running a 10k today (it must have been a hot one in London too!). Also well done to Uncle Pear for winning his golf championship for the tenth time. Wahooo.

I don't know if I have mentioned that Aunty Miaow and Uncle Tuc are in Canada at the moment. They arrived on Wednesday and are driving around a bit before they come and stay with us. It sounds like they are having a wonderful time. Can't wait to catch up with them properly soon.

Redneck Rubbings

Last night as we were clearing the grass cuttings we were smothered in Mosquito Repellant (an organic one that doesn't smell unpleasant) and I kept waking up in the night smelling the strong lemon on my arms and on the bedding. In the end I had to get up and wash my arms thoroughly. Then at sillyO'clock Smallest crept in, torch in hand, saying he couldn't sleep because he could hear the Harry Potter music in his head (knew he was too young to watch that last film!). I told him to sing the Muppets song in his head so he forgot the HP tune, and the silly bum started singing Muppets. NO Not at 4am! Then the birds started singing and he said "why do the birds have to sing now at night and not wait till the morning?" BECAUSE IT IS MORNING ARRRRGGGHHHH. I escorted him back to bed when he was fully muppeted and managed to get to sleep until Mr No-concern-for-others-except-myself-and-my-motorbike started strimming (whipper snippering) before 7am and didn't stop till after 8am. The thoughtless good for nothing PIG! (Whoops I just re-read this back and realised he is a policeman, I wasn't calling him a pig because of that though!).

Our day started with a lovely waffling breakfast and piles of fruit, lovely.

Then Moo started on today's picnic, Small started filling the car with beachy stuff. A basketball game went on and a sweep of the drive by Huffle.

The boys went in the pool to cool off and Moo and I sat in the shade with our feet dangling.

It was lovely. The temperature was rising (though according to my phone it was hotter in London today). Once we had cooled down sufficiently we got in the air conditioned car and drove to Port Hope for dinner.

We ended up eating in the Dreamers Cafe that was famous for its sumptuous cookies. Of course we had to take some away after our dinner sitting in the window.

Then we made our way with our tea picnic to Cobourg Beach again. The beach was absolutely packed. The only place we could settle ourselves was next to the lifeguard who let us wrestle with the parasols for ten minutes before she told us we couldn't put our stuff directly in front as she needed a clear path to run to the lake.

WHAT ABOUT THE KID COVERD IN WET SAND LYING ACROSS HER PATH THEN?

We didn't stay where we were for long because the people next to us started smoking and luckily for us!!!?? The wind was coming our way. We edged up a bit as soon as the people on front moved away and then slowly spread ourselves out. People started disappearing. Unfortunately the people all around decide to smoke at one time or another.

Moo, Huffle and Small played cards in the Sunbrella tent while Smallest and I played a few games of Mastermind. We ate our picnic, played Jackers. The boys all played catch while Moo and I read.

At one point as people were leaving a whole group descended on the beach noisily. Beer and cigarettes in hand, they ventured into the lake. My favourite 'lady' was adorned with tattoos, leapord print, beer in one hand, cigarette in the other as she stumbled drunkenly into the water following her lovely man in where they tousled together. I watched them all avidly and tried to take photos without getting noticed.

While we were playing Jackers, they passed us. A couple tried to not get in our way, but 'MelBOoooooh' stumbled into me and said "I weren't trying to rub yer" OH OKAY THEN!

We carried on playing until about 8pm when we noticed they were setting up a huge screen on the beach, I have always wanted to see an outdoor movie and the kids got really excited.

We found out it was IceAge4 which we have already seen and it didn't start till 8:30pm (plus we were over an hour away from home) so we decided to go home instead. Smallest was very tired anyway.

We packed up the car and Moo and I looked at the harbour while the boys went to the loo.

It was a good journey home but very late by the time the boys were in bed (10pm). We told them not to get up early as we are hoping for a lie-in.

Lazy day tomorrow by the pool.

Badges Earned

It was a beautiful day today, though Moo said it was 'Sultry'. I've never heard that term for weather before and all day we have been coming up with words befitting today's temperature. When I got up the Sun room was on its way to 40* and the outside temperature was on its way to 30*.

Moo and I cut the grass and swept and raked before we cycled to swimming lessons.

After a quick swim from Smallest, they all got to play for an hour. Small went in with them as his classmates were all up at their cottages.

They did diving, jumping, water polo, and a few other games. They both got their badges and were very pleased. Moo and I got a box of chocolates for helping with the counting and timing which was nice.

We cycled home. The boys had lunch in front of the TV and Moo and I ate out on the porch reading. Then we all moved up to the pool. We swam, read, played Stack 'em Up, played cards, swam and jumped.

Huffle came home and we had a BBQ outside.

Last night we watched The Apprentice which we catch each week on YouTube. We think we watched the wrong one because it was just going over the last weeks and telling us about each candidate. We are going to try and find the right one tonight. Plus we also have a SYTYCD to watch. Moo wants me to tell you that we played Table Tennis and that she won (in reality we haven't played yet but she is wildly wishing )

We still found time before the kids went to bed to do a quick second mow as the first was a struggle through the long grass. Then Huffle used the hedge trimmer on the trees and moo and I did the picking up. Then another quick swim and snorkel. Phew!

Beached

Today was a beautiful day. Not humid, just sunny, perfect for a day on the beach. Our first call of the day was the library, followed by the park. Moo got her 6monthly hair cut and we went to swimming lessons where Moo joined us.

Smallest did some excellent swimming and did a 50m swim. Small beat his record and did 400m in 11:35. Moo and I have been invited to swim in their pool tomorrow as it is their last lesson and it is a fun day. After swimming we drove to Port Hope (about an hour away) where we parked up and had dinner, then had a quick walk through the quaint town, decided we would come back next year on our own and drove to Cobourg Beach.

We parked up away from the beach and carried all of our bags to the beach (Moo and Smallest walked back again though because he dropped his spade somewhere!).

It was very busy today but we managed to find a spot near to the water but still on the nice sand. Up went up our Sunbrella, three chairs, two blankets and books, ball, bucket and spade and Boules (jackers). The boys started building castles and rivers and it wasn't long before Small went in and swam though he said it was very very cold.

Smallest followed not long after. Moo and I got to read our library magazines and books (though I did have to walk back to the car to look for books we already had on the beach!).

We played Jackers. The boys played football and carried on swimming and building.

I moved the car near to the beach and brought the picnic back. I felt a little smug carrying our tea to the beach while everyone else was heading off for their tea and their kids all saying "oh he why can't we stay?".

We stayed there till 7:30pm and the sun was still strong. We drove home (hour and a quarter) and Huffle was there waiting for us in his new golfing shorts, doing a bit of weeding after playing a game with his new friend Rum.

The kids went to bed and said they had a lovely day. Smallest said it was the best beach EVER!

Shopping List

I woke up this morning when Huffle got up sometime around 6am, then again at 7ish when he left, then at 7:30am when the kids got up, then again when Moo got up. Noisy family!

After breakfast, Moo and I went through all the clothes that no longer fit the boys and sorted them into a 'charity' pile and a 'give away to friends' pile. Moo takes the friends one back for me and we packed the charity stuff into a box for later. Moo also sorted out Smallest's drawers and wardrobe (she loves doing this and at least I know it gets a good sort out twice a year).

We all went off to swimming lessons. Moo and I again had to count laps (we worked out crocs are good for counting!) and time the three different swimmers. They did well. Smallest and his classmate had to wear life jackets and show how they could keep warm.

After swimming we came home, had a quick sandwich and went off to do our list. First stop was the Thrifty store to drop off the clothes and buy a book for Moo. Next was the jewellers. Moo wants to buy me a Pandorra bracelet for my birthday (ages away but she likes to leave presents for those birthdays she will miss) as I lost my charm bracelet before I came out. We didn't do well so she is going to look at home. Next we looked for Small's birthday, presents for home, crocs for the boys, swim shorts and something nice for our picnic tomorrow.

We got home and it was very very hot. 30* with humidity making it feel like 38*. So once we emptied our bags we went straight up to the pool. I bought the boys some snorkelling sets for holiday, so they tried them out.

Next door was mowing and the clouds went all dark so we decided we would mow too. However once I started, next door stopped. The grass was very long but I did half of it (despite running out of petrol again) and then Moo carried on. Between us, we finished behind the barn but behind the house still needs a bit more work and the front still needs doing. We had to stop because it started thundering, lightning and raining. I was Skyping Aunty A and had to rush off to pack the boys in the house and get everything away.

It didn't last long but we started dinner anyway. Huffle came home and we ate. He had had a bad day. We all played UPSET. Moo won (as she did last night too!).

The boys went to bed, we played table tennis and watched Cake Boss and SYTYCD.

Huffle is playing golf tomorrow and for Fathers Day this year we bought him some new golfing shorts. Oh how excited he was this evening prancing around in them saying:- "this part has a separate pocket for my scorecard", "here is a detachable ball marker", "a little separate pocket just for tees, to keep them away from his coins". What a happy bunny he is!

Tractor vs Mummy

There was so much rainfall last night, the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) was flooded in parts and many places had power outages. Huffle's work had no power, consequently, after coming home earlier than normal to avoid the storm, he ended up working all evening trying to sort the matter in his office. Then he had to get up at 4am as he was expecting a telephone call to decide what was happening for the rest of the day.

Two photos we found online showed how bad the rain was. Lots of roads were closed. They estimated we would get 100mm of rainfall. 300,000 people were without power around the city. Some people were trapped on the subway.

The top photo is the Go Train (double decker train) and the bottom photo is a man coming off the train! What a nightmare. We had more storms and rain forecast through the night. We got the rain but no storm thank goodness.

Huffle went off to work much earlier than normal. The boys, Moo and I made a picnic (we are experts now), headed out to swimming lessons where we had to time the three people in Small's class and count their lengths. We had two stopwatches and three people counting and we still got in a mess!

Smallest and his class mate swam (well she mainly complained and said she couldn't do it!!! The instructor told her to just "get on with it").

We attempted to drive to the beach, the one nearest to us with a park where we could park close and take lots of stuff without having to carry it too far. However, my sat Nav took us to the wrong part, where there was no beach so we turned round a few times until I got my bearings and got to the correct one. By which time we were hungry.

We settled on the newly combed beach, chairs, rugs, brolly there but not up, and ate our picnic. In the middle of it, our friend with the tractor came along. We better move says Moo. OH no says I, we're going nowhere. It got closer and closer until I went up to it and asked him how long he would be there for. "All afternoon" he said. "No that's not on, what are you doing?" Said I. "Grooming the beach" he said with a sneer. "Well why can't you leave it in its natural state, it's fine as it is". "You see that stuff in the lake? Well it's bacteria and it comes onto the stones and you're standing on it!" He said pompously. "Well do you have a sign that says what you are doing and when?" "Yes, over there". The boys and I checked later and there was no sign, apart from one saying that after heavy rainfall it is not advisable to swim due to bacteria in the water - nothing about tractors picking up stones and kicking up a lot of sand dust. So I told him I didn't think it was fair and that my children were playing and it wasn't safe while he was there making a sandstorm. He looked at me and I thought I was about to lose the fight when he said "yeah okay, I'll stop then, Sorry" and off he went and we didn't see him again. We finished our picnic. Moo and Smallest played Boules (jackers) and Small and I built a castle. Then they let Moo and I read in the sunshine (it was very hot and humid). Small put the Sunbrella up and they sat inside. Little did we know that Small was covering Smallest with sand. He had it EVERYWHERE!

It got too hot for us so we moved off and drove to the ice cream shop.

I'm not supposed to mention that Moo got ice cream on her glasses and in her hair so don't tell her I told you!

Then we came home and jumped in the pool where Smallest subsequently lost his wobbly tooth. Huffle was home and jumped in and rescued it for him.

Moo skyped Badminton Babe and had a catch up.

We all went in for dinner and showers, TV, table tennis and bed.

 

Last night Moo and I played about four games of Upset. I won every one. I was very lucky with the dice. Moo was very unlucky, every card she picked up and every dice she threw. It was funny (she thought so too!).

Splish Splash Splosh

It was a hot and humid night. All windows opened and the fans on. This morning it was hot but cloudy. We did swimming lessons mid morning.......

......and then made our way to the Splash Pad. We set up our chairs and picnic rug and ate our lunch watching lots of children running around in the cool water. The boys ran in soon after......

Moo and I watched, photographed and read despite the screeching sounds of the kids. Why do they feel they have to scream and screech. Still it was entertaining enough.

We stayed till late afternoon when we heard some small rumbles of thunder, then moved away and did some food shopping, came home, put it away, emptied the car and made dinner while the boys played.

Huffle came home early because of the storm. It got to his office before he left and power is out all over Toronto.

We all had dinner together and ate Moo's homemade Rhubarb and Apple Crumble.
