We got a tree!!!!

I took my medicine last night, that is supposed to knock me out before bed and the damn thing kept me awake until 2am!!! My legs were twitching and I felt like going out for a run, except my head was drowsy. I was boiling hot and finally got to sleep with fits of coughing during the night - sorry Huffle! Everyone went to bed early last night.

Poor Smallest wasn't very well this morning. He had funny little red cheeks (he reminded me of an elf). He had a cough and his throat hurt and he had a tiny little squeaky voice. We decided to keep him off school and he lay on the settee, had small bites to eat, played a few games and watched a film or two. Moo and I fit in a game or two of SkipBo.

Moo and Huffle went off around midday on an adventure to find a tree and a present for one of the boys. They came back with a lovely tree (smaller than our usual ones) perfectly formed. After some lunch and A Charlie Brown Christmas we decorated the tree lovingly and broke four ornaments. Smash smash smash smash. Of course, all glass ones!

We finished just as Small came home and then I decided I wanted to move the tree to another spot as there seemed more room. Of course, this disturbed the tree and we had to re-anchor and position it. It looks nice though. There is already a present under there from Papa Elf saying "to whoever has been naughty". This is one of our traditions since moving here, that appears under the tree and gets packed away every year. It is a Barbie doll and no-one seems to want her!

Small and I put up his tree in his bedroom and I threw decorations at him whilst laying on his bed. He did a good job. We can't find Smallest's tree so we have to get him a new one.

This morning Moo and I made a hearty vitamin C fuelled soup to try and get everyone well before Christmas Day. After dinner, Small made us a dessert of meringue, dream topping and fruit. Very nice. I am now eating small stuff hurrah. No more tummy rumbles all through the night and it means my nausea has gone. Early afternoon I took my drowsy medicine again and this time (after a couple of hours), my legs turned to jelly and my head went really fuzzy but it did not send me to sleep.

This evening Huffle took Smallest to the walk in doctors and had to beg to be seen as they were trying to close up. They did see him and gave him antibiotics for suspected strep throat. They send the swab off but it won't come back until after Friday and beating in mind it is the weekend and Christmas, he will probably have finished the medicine before they know properly. I guess he will be off tomorrow too.

Flu away

Well it's been a long time since it have been laid low with an illness. I have the Flu or a pretty bad virus. This morning I went to the walk-in doctors and took Moo with me for moral support. I had to drive but it wasn't too bad despite me saying that I just wanted to close my eyes and go to sleep on the way. In the waiting room Moo and I sat near the door (maybe less germs there!?) and next to me, I put my coat and bag and scarf on the chair. A man came in and stood directly in front of me and started to take off his coat and scarf etc and then looked at me (even though I had my eyes closed and was trying to sleep). He said "do you mind?" SORRY. "Do you mind?" Indicating my coat chair. I looked around the waiting room and there were plenty of seats available. I muttered SERIOUSLY? And moved my stuff onto my lap (bearing in mind I was burning up). Moo moved it all onto her lap and the man sat down really close to me. Stupid man! Later while I was in the doctors he tried to talk to Moo but she wasn't having any of it.

The doctor checked my throat, ears, chest, lungs, nose, blood pressure, temperature. Everything was okay which was weird as I could have fried an egg on my head. My blood pressure was a little high but not worrying so. Considering I haven't eaten for over two days now and I am sleeping constantly, temperature going from ridiculously high (in my opinion) to freezing cold, the doctor decided it needed a helping hand and gave me some Tamiflu and some dissolving stuff that has antihistamine, paracetamol (acetaminophen) and decongestant. Plus it knocks you out for a good sleep. The doctor said "London?" To me and I said NO LEICESTER. He said he thought he was good at accents and then went on to tell me the Cockney accent sounded really intellectual. Has he not heard Danny Dyer's fake cockney? I think even Adele would laugh to hear that one.

I picked up my prescriptions and Moo and I came home where I dosed myself up and went to bed for the rest of the afternoon. (Well until the boys came home anyway). I woke up feeling brighter with finally no headache after nearly four days.

Huffle worked in the basement and Moo wrapped her presents. Today the boys moved into Portables (portakabins) as their part of the school is being knocked down over Christmas. They were full of dismay as the doors didn't shut properly, the was no heat in Smallest's, and nowhere to put wet things in Small's which had to sit in a heap of wetness on the floor.

Moo and Small made meatballs for dinner with some instruction from me on the sidelines.

Poor Smallest had to get up in the night due to bad coughing. Huffle sat downstairs with him and they watched The Grinch and then came back to bed. They were both very tired today but Smallest went to school as he wanted to.

Saturday was Smallest's last football game. It was a 2-2 draw.

We did nothing on Sunday. We were supposed to get a Christmas tree. No Christmas tree in our house yet. BOOOOOOOO.

Just too much.....

We had more snow. In fact about another foot. Huffle went out first thing and started clearing the drive and was still doing it when we came back around 3pm though I'm guessing he came in quite a bit to do his work.

The bus was running though I don't understand why as it seemed as bad as the day it didn't run! Moo and I decided to brave the weather again and go to knitting, thinking that all the major roads would be clear. Silly us. They were terrible and we had to go very slow. Still, we got there just after 10:30 and sat and knitted with the rest of the table, eating chocolate covered Orios (well just the one yum yum), and chatting. I started a new sock and Moo carried on with a dishcloth I started.

Moo and I went for lunch, though we had a lot of trouble parking. Everywhere was crazy. Damn Christmas shopping!! We had a lovely lunch of butternut soup and a bagel in the cafe and then perused a few shops before walking/sliding to the car and popping to another couple of shops. Too many cars on the road, too many people shopping, too much snow, not enough grit and salt on the roads!

It was really cold day today and not at all the right temperature to stand on the porch and put the Christmas lights up, but we did. And then we put the big baubles up. Half of the lights weren't working so we tried to bunch up the ones that weren't, hide them and just hang the ones that were. They don't look great but it might have to do until we get some more which will probably be after Christmas now. Moo and I also went through the Christmas boxes and put the greenery on the mantelpiece and the stair rail and placed some Christmassy things about. Looking nice. All we need is the tree now.

After dinner, Small and Huffle played on the Wii, Moo and I finished the Beano jigsaw and watched Carpool Karaoke and Smallest played on his tablet.

A horseshoe in the snow

The bus was running, the boys went to school. Huffle stayed at home and worked. Moo and I went to the Mall and were there by 9:30am. There we met up with Suffolk and then got on with some serious Christmas Shopping. Suffolk knows shops we don't and some of them happened to be very teenagery. Eeuuggh they made me feel old! One shop we went in was very dark and pokey with really loud music and weird lights and Moo left because she didn't like it. Suffolk and I walked down to the bottom of the shop where it became an 'adult shop' ahhhhhhh that explained a lot!

We finally stopped at 12:30 for a drink and share of a slice of lemon loaf unaware that outside there was a blizzard, temperatures of -20* and heavy snow falling. Huffle warned us and we cancelled our foot appointment for later as we were worried we might not get there safely.

Suffolk left to get to her school job and Moo and I carried on shopping. We did very well and decided to come home before the roads got too bad. However, the roads were already too bad. It was horrible. No ploughs had ploughed and the snow was heavy and thick on the roads as well as in the sky. We got on the highway and the traffic was at a near standstill. Luckily I had Moo with me who was very calm though she did use her imaginary brakes once or twice.

We tried to follow a lorry because we couldn't see the lines on the three lane road but he went too fast for me to safely drive. Somehow we went wrong on the road and ended up almost back where we started, though how we did that going on a straight road, I have no idea. Damn my useless sense of direction!!! Mind you, the visibility was nearly zero. It was like driving through thick fog but with snowy road!! We got off the highway and drove along a fairly major road, once agin not ploughed and two lanes were just two small Tyre tracks in the snow. For a while I was a leader on the roads but the car behind either took pity on me or was bored of going so slow and overtook me. It was a very tense drive. When we finally got to The Hamlet, the roads were even worse. I think it will be a snow day tomorrow.

We sat and watched the kids play on the Wii for a while and then Moo and I made Vegetable Cottage Pie and a Beef Cottage Pie.

We cancelled football for Small too because the roads were too dangerous. More snow is expected in fact it hasn't stopped all day. We think we have had another foot and another 2/3 ft due tomorrow night/Saturday morning.

After dinner which was full of vitamin C, anti oxidants, potassium and lots more ha ha ha, we had a table tennis tournament. We each played each other and I won.

Poor Moo is suffering from her aerobics yesterday. She obviously used lots of muscles she doesn't normally. Hoping she will feel better tomorrow as the drive has a lot of snow on it!!!!!!!!!

Albino Stoat

-12* with windchill and boy did it feel like it. The wind was really cutting.

Huffle went off to the office today. The boys went to school on the bus. Moo and I went to aerobics. Lots of silliness and fun today and two beautiful presents. A lovely star tree ornament from ExerciseNic and a homemade knitting in a bauble from K1. Today I changed My weights to 7lbs and I think I might notice tomorrow.

We came home and showered and went immediately out to meet up with Suffolk and have lunch where my toast got caught on my sleeve and jumped off my pate and onto the floor. More silliness, chatting and laughter and then she left us to go to school and Moo and I went and did a little Costco shop and a Homesense shop where we picked up a few presents.

Back home we divided up meat for the freezer, made dinner for all the boys and cleaned the kitchen.

Smallest and Huffle went to football practice this evening leaving Small playing on his tablet and Moo and I played Table Tennis, folded washing and sorted the pantry. Huffle has now caught seven mice which is what is supposed to be a whole family, so we have now moved everything out of the boxes and back on to the shelves. It makes finding things much easier. I hope the mice don't come back!!!!!

On the way home Huffle nearly ran over an albino stoat.
