Together Everyone Achieves More (four go back to school)

Last night Grandma and I fell asleep to the film we were watching. Huffle and Grandad got in late from the baseball. They had a good time.

There was a note in Smallest's bag to say that he would be getting an award in assembly today, and that if we wanted to come in, we were more than welcome. Huffle took the day off, so we were all sitting in the assembly by 9:15. The mum's were all there with their cameras, taking videos and pictures of their little darlings.

The first person to be called up for an award was Smallest. He stood there at the front grinning, then he saw us, we gave him the thumbs up and he grinned some more. The assembly went on for quite a while. We heard a song about being U N I T E D. It was a very positive message. Smallest went off with the other kids that got awards to have their photos taken.

Small came over and said that his teacher wanted us to go into his classroom. We had no idea why but we trundled in. The class was sitting down at their desks. Small's teacher said it was not often they had overseas visitors and would we mind answering the children's questions. We stood at the front of the class while the children all said good Morning to us. The children put their hands up to ask a question. "what's that place with two sides and a bit at the top that you can go up?". Think he meant the eiffel tower. "when you flew from England did you fly over Big Ben?". "my Dad is from England". "My Mum went to England". "My dad came from Syria to England and then Canada". "Are there lots of buildings?". "is it warm". "Does it rain and is it depressing" that was from his teacher, she was only joking though. "did you see the Royal Wedding?"

At the end they gave us a round of applause in their own unique way. Some put their hands in the air and 'raised the roof', some gestured like fireworks etc. it was funny. We were dismissed from class, Grandma hadn't done her homework, naughty girl.

We drove to a garden centre and had a good look around. We bought some plants for our two pots on the porch, and some perennials for around the garden. Grandad nearly gave some advice to a woman who needed to get moss out of her lawn.

Liked this car. Number plate was TR iffic

In desperate need of a cup of tea, we drove into Whitby (not at all like the English Whitby). We found a tea shop where the lady made fabulous cakes - she was Cake Boss! When we walked in, a little old lady was sat near the fire (not really necessary as sunny out), watching the TV, nearly asleep. She said Hello and got out of her chair and we wondered why (thinking she was a customer). Then the cake boss came up and asked if we were okay? We told her we wanted the cafe. The lady who was half asleep, was supposed to serve us I think but she kind of hovered around looking useful!? The tea was awful, really weak and just a little bit perfumed.

So if we, as English, like our tea rich and robust, why not serve it to us like that then?

We had a bit of a walk around Whitby. There wasn't an awful lot to see or do.

.......although Grandad found a friend ah hah
This was a flower shop - know what I shall do with my old Wellies now

........and then got back in the car and followed our noses! We took Granmda and Grandad around Value Village (I think they were very impressed, Grandad especially). Grandma showed her snobby side by turning up her nose at the secondhandedness of the place (she said it was the smell and the dirt).

I say! Have you seen my gardener? He is wearing a checkered number!

Oh there you are. "where did you want the cabbages puttin' boss?"

We had lunch in an Irish Pub (a better smell so Grandad said!). Grandma said if that was Irish then "I'll eat that second hand hat that Grandad just wore even though it smells like a dead rat with feathers on".

Oh no, there are at it again!!!!

Grandad and Huffle went to Nevada Bob's Golf shop and swung their clubs whilst Grandma and I walked around Homesense (TK Maxx in the UK). No-one bought anything and before we knew it, it was time to get home for the boys coming off the bus.

We pottered around the garden, filled the two Porch Pots, put a couple of plants in the garden. The boys helped water.

All the boys (big and small) played football. Aunt Pear skyped us and we passed her around so she could catch up with everyone. Whilst she was talking, I went to get up and tell the boys to be more quiet, our teapot, Baaarnaby, jumped off the table and all the tea things fell on the floor. Poor Baaarnaby was les white than he used to be. He had to be washed and spun in the washer.

I can confirm he is okay, no animals were harmed during this process. She told us all about CousinPest who has got his new flat in Wimbledon and has started his job. Apparently part of the job involves being a card player (hope he has learnt to cheat better than Aunt Pear) and running inside when it rains. However, I would like to point out that he has a better oven than I!!!!!!!

We had lots of games of table hockey and football.

The boys were a nightmare this evening. Enough said! They have gone to bed and we are playing cards.

FAVOURITE QUOTE OF THE DAY:(from Grandma)I don't know if Canadians have small heads, but..........
