Through the eye of the storm!

When I said yesterday that we watched 300 photos of Miaow and Tuc's wedding, it was actually 600. Phew. It was really good to see them though. What a gorgeous couple.

Last night's sleep was awful. Smallest at the bottom of our bed on an air bed was horrendous. He is a wriggler. Everytime he moved it sounded like fireworks going off. Of course he moved everytime I was just getting to sleep. At 2am I gave in, got Small's big huge cushion and made a bed on there for him. Much better. Huffle and I got some sleep. Miaow had Smallest's bed and had to listen to Uncle Tuc turning and creaking and squeaking on his air bed. Then his air bed deflated somewhat. Oh dear, the only one who slept properly was Small.

This morning we had breakfast and then all got ready for a trip to Niagara Falls (sorry Aunty A). Poor Huffle had to go to work. He has had a terrible week at work.

We had a good journey there, the boys played on their DS' with Uncle Tuc chaperoning them. Aunty Miaow helped me with me navigating. We got there at around 1pm.

We had taken some sandwiches and once we had left our car with Mowgli, who offered the car park for $5 but really it was $10 (can they do that?), we walked along the falls, took photos and then took shade under a big tree and ate our lunch. We sat and looked at the falls whilst trying to keep cool. It was very very hot again today and very humid. Huffle said it felt like being inside a hair dryer. We understood what he meant.

It wasn't too busy today. We walked from one end of the falls (American falls) to the other end (Canadian Falls). Lots of photos were taken but my two visitors today decided not to go on the Maid of the Mist as they felt it was too touristy.

We walked through the gardens, looked at the fish, had an ice cream and climbed a tree. We got through a lot of drinking water.

We drove to Niagara-on-the-Lake and walked along the shops, occasionally stepping in to the shops to cool down. We found a bakery and the boys had their tea from there. We managed a few more shops but it was too hot to walk around. Besides Uncle Tuc was disappointed that there was no lake to see. It was there but it wasn't close by.

We drove home in the hot hot sunshine. The boys played on their DS' again and Uncle Tuc fell asleep.

A huge big black cloud started coming towards us. Huffle had already told us to be careful on the way as storms were coming. Then the wind got up and the rain came. It was so heavy that the windscreen wipers couldn't handle it. Uncle Tuc woke up (when he was poked in the back by Smallest to see if he really was asleep). We were just driving over a very high bridge with a high lorry next to us, the wind buffeting us, when the lightning started. We had never seen anything like it. There were eight forks of lightning shaped around like a spider. It was also close. At the same time we had a text message from Huffle saying that the house was shaking and he was preparing the basement. He had heard a weather warning that there was a Tornado warning just where we were passing. Glad we didn't know about that one!

We got through it, though on the way we encountered a mobile home carrying three bikes precariously tied up with string, a trailer carrying loose bricks, an aeroplane carreering towards us and a high sided vehicle blowing in the wind next to us over the scary bridge and a road full of fallen trees (which Miaow and I missed but did run over!). Miaow and I coped very well (though not if you listened to Uncle Tuc tell the story!).

Once home, the storm had disappeared from our house, it was still standing and Huffle was once again calm.

We turned off the aircon and opened the windows. Yay the boys are back in their beds and Miaow and Tuc are in their loft room.

We had dinner and played UPSET.

What a lot all in one day, hope all slept better. Good old Small, he must have the family genes and sleep on a sixpence like Grandad and me.
