Pigs and Blueberries

First thing this morning

The temperature today was a whopping 31* which apparently the forecasters said felt like 37*. After a slowish morning of breakfast, boys playing on the computer and Moo and I playing Table Tennis, we pottered off to Port Perry.

OMG it was sooooo hot.

We went and looked at the outdoor pool, got the timetable and walked along the harbour to the park. The boys fought over the swirly thing for a while, went on the swings and then very quickly gave in and went on the splash pad.

Then we took them swimming. It wasn't a huge pool but they stuck to the deep end (after they proved they could swim) and did some lovely swimming, jumping and practicing their standing dives. After about 3/4 hour, Small got out complaining of stinging eyes so we got Smallest out too and we walked through the town to the Italian for dinner.

This used to be our favourite restaurant but I think it has been taken over by someone else as the last time and this time wasn't so good. There were flies in there that were really bothering us and the waitress brought us a fly swatter. Good but not ideal while we were eating. The food was okay but I don't think I will be suggesting that place for a while. The boys wanted an ice cream so we visited the Nutty Chocolatier and they chose what they wanted and we wandered along the shops, window shopping.

We went back down to the harbour and the boys went on the park again before we gave in because it was just too hot. We came home and drove past a farm I wanted to go in. The boys went off to play on the tractors and wigwams and we went in and bought wild Blueberries (wow - the best), raspberries and strawberries. When we went out to find the boys we found pigs, goats, ducks and turkeys. We talked to them for a while and then got back in the air conditioned car - ahhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Once home we ducked into the pool. It was 28* in there. Lovely. Moo and I read in between watching the boys do performing tricks and then we had a game of cards.

Once Huffle came home he too got in the pool and then we got ready to go out. Moo got the boys their tea and we went off to a garden tour with the Garden Club. It was just one garden but ten acres made into a very interesting place. It had meandering paths made into almost a forest walk, a colour wheel garden, a lily path, lake, dry bed river and much much more. It was featured in a Canadian Garden Magazine. It was spectacular. However we got bitten to shreds by the mosquitoes (mossies/skeeters) and black fly. Bloomin' things.

We need to get that Clematis (TR) to wind around the pool trellis
TL is that a forget-me-not? Very blue and very late but lovely.
Lily for Grandad (BL) and a Tradescantia (to remind us we want one!)
Gorgeous Hydrangeas, Nicotianas and Clematis (remind us of old home)
A silly pair enjoying the late sunshine, Canadian Goose weather vane (Huffle wants one of those) and a different Echinacea
What do they say?....."the sun always shines on the righteous?!?!"
Right: raspberries grown against some stakes and birch - nice. Beautiful raspberries too.

Lilies don't have to be taken in, they overwinter YAY. We loved the face on the Pergola, reminded us of a Dwarf in Lord of the Rings. Right: is a tree called Smoking Tree!? It was burgundy - lovely.

Far too many photos of the garden but you know me............

We came home after managing to offer my services as a hostess for Septembers Garden Club Meeting - I just wanted to come home. Silly me!

When we got home the boys were in bed, Small had a tummy ache (too much sun) and Moo was in the basement watching Harry Potter.

Good photos, good day. Have a good last day with Moo, sure you are now looking forward to seeing Kat and hubby. Lots to catch up on, a wedding for a start!

Lovely gardens but it's been far too hot to wander around outside! Your last pic, bottom right is a Purple Smoke Bush, a Cotinus I think. Think it's called that because of the purple haze around the leaves after it's flowered, really pretty when it catches the sun. We've got two of them.

Hugs
