The Six Dollar Man*

A bit of a lie-in this morning started our day. No-one was awake before 8am which was a nice change. Another slow morning of tablet'ing, catching up on the news, playing Agricola, skyping Grandma and Grandad and Moo. We showed them around our 'impressive' cottage. Once again our picnic for later was made, research was done as to where we would be dining at lunchtime and reviews added to Trip Advisor.

Eventually we all got ourselves and our stuff together and went off in search of Rob's Chip Truck. A truly First Nations side of the road fish and chip place. It had very high reviews on Trip Advisor and it didn't disappoint. We weren't sure what to order as the fish was Perch or Pickerel. Perch, we only knew from the kids fishing game we used to play constantly and Pickerel we knew came from local lakes. We were advised that Perch was smaller and fishier and that Huffle and I would need a certain size and the kids a different one. The bill came to over $60 (£30 ish) which for a take away chippy, I thought was a little steep. There was far too much for us all to eat. Too many chips, lots of fish and we could easily have shared but it was very good and just what we needed for another afternoon on the beach.

Rob's Chip Truck - more of a permanent hut with seating next to a forest, on a road.

We checked out a different part of the beach briefly but it seemed further away to park though there was parking on the beach itself (many locals frown upon such things as it is bad for the environment). I wonder if driving a tractor up and down for three hours on a beach is bad for the environment? We ended up back on the same beach, almost in the same spot. The reason we weren't in exactly the same spot was because the owners of the cottage right behind that spot had put out various bits like a boat, chairs, table etc - Huffle is convinced they put all of that there to stop us playing cricket and pitching up our camp. To top it all they had a fire later on and it stunk. Huffle edit - definitely put there to stop us, merchant bankers (cockney rhyming slang for those who aren't English)

There were waves again today, bigger and fiercer which churned all the lake up and made it horrible and brown (sand) with bits of lake weed floating around your ankles - not my favourite. I decided not to go in and sat and read and took photos while all the boys were in boarding again. They all got much further on the waves and unfortunately Smallest's board broke in two. Good job we bought two more before we came away because we have ruined the two old ones in the last couple of days!

Surfing, Jackers, sand castles, seagulls, reading and sunshine

There was a lot of reading today from all of us, quite a few games of Jackers and a couple of long games of cricket. We had a lot of interest from the locals and a few commented on our play. There were still a few who completely disrupted the game due to their complete state of oblivion. Small somehow persuaded me to go In the water despite the fact that I didn't want to go in or get my hair wet. He convinced me that I could jump over the waves until one big one went right over my head. I ended up swimming in it after that but I hated wading through the weedy stuff.

Panoramic of the beach, silly Small, sunshine and cricket

Another walk to the Ice Cream shop and plenty of strangeness in the local beachwalkers.

A man who took his coffee in the lake with him! Where did you get that hat! A man on an electric bike towing a golf bag!

By 7:30Pm the beach was deserted except for the odd dog walker and strolling couple, all apart from the one couple who chose to park right next to our camp and had their picnic too. They seemed nice enough except for their smoking which just happened to blow right in to us. The whole beach.........!!!

Sunset

After our tea, we all played cricket and watched the sun setting, which was particularly spectacular. We were very late back today and briefly bumped into MrsBorrower next door who introduced herself and told us where to put the bins.

Another lovely day.

*something silly that I said about Small running through the water in slow motion. I forgot what the six billion dollar man was called.
