C'mon Piper, sunset's nearly 'ere!

Looked like it was a lovely day again so we got our breakfasts, got ready and went to the beach with picnic in hand again (well the cool box).

10:30am and we were the first ones on. We chose our spot. Put up our umbrellas as there was minimal breeze first thing. The boys were straight in to the lake but as it was a bit cloudier, Huffle and I sat for a while and watched.

Small kept throwing a stick in the water and they would both swim after it, like two little dogs! WOOF!

A girl and her grandma wandered past and the girl got in the lake and swam near the boys. Her Grandma told us she was desperate for someone to play with. (the girl not the Grandma). We introduced her to the boys and then they were all the best of friends for the next hour or so. The Grandma stood and talked to us for ages. The girl swam with Small and helped Smallest to build a river. She was ten years old. She didn't want to go home at lunchtime bit eventually they left.

We had our picnic. We had a seagull encircling us and being very territorial with other gulls, chasing them away if they came too close. There were a lot of black flies around today. They bit me and wouldn't leave me alone and then they started bothering everyone else, so we all got in the lake for a swim.

Coming back to the beach after he made me get out of the lake in a hurry cos he needed a Poo, then as soon as I got out he changed his mind. He went anyway!!!

A cloudy yet sunny shot

We swam lots, played boules, played on the swings..............................

.......made faces in the sand.........

I made this face, originally it was Nanny McPhee and then Small said he thought it looked like me in the morning - cheeky BUM!

When we could stand the flies no more, and we were too tired to swim again, we packed up our stuff and walked slowly into town. We had dinner at a place we have sneered at many times but it was really good. We had three different fishes. Cod, Haddock and White Fish (Local lake fish). Then we walked back to the lake front to see how far away the sunset was. It wasn't near, so the boys went on the swings and we got talking to some people who live North of us. We walked back into the town again and got an ice cream and walked slowly back to the big flag to wait for the Bag Piper to pipe in the sunset (he does this every Friday).

We waited....... And waited ............. And the boys played on the rocks and we waited........ And it rained just a tiny bit.............and the boys got bored..........

so we sent them on the beach to find interesting stones. And we waited.....

and finally he came............... He was very young.

At first, Smallest thought he was great and clapped happily at the end of each tune. Then he asked "why does he keep playing the same one over and over again?"
It was getting late and the sun still wasn't setting, and Smallest was so very tired, so we came away.

The family watching the piper

Small and the wee piper

Small popping a bit of money in his collection box. The sun just starting to set.

We came home, put the boys to bed and opened a bottle of wine. Ummmmmmmmmmmmm. nice!
