"I don't want to go on holiday with woolly hair!"

Yesterday I went into the basement to fetch something from freezer and I felt a drip on my head! There was a small pool of water on the floor and an exposed pipe was dripping slowly. I put a towel under it, made a pot of tea for when Huffle came home and waited till he was drinking it before I told him. He worked out that it was the pipe from the washing machine and called the plumber to ask if he could repair it. He said he would be round first thing this morning.

What time is first thing for a plumber? I got up at 7:15 just in case. He arrived at 8:30am. At first he couldn't find a problem and then he did and he sorted it.

Breakfast was eaten, showers and baths were taken, packing for our holiday was started. Book reviews for the library were written, journals updated. It was a busy and productive morning. We spoke to Moo on Skype. The boys asked her to climb through the IPad, she tried but couldn't quite do it. I'm sure it will happen one day in the future!

By 11am we headed out of the door to meet ClownRose and BabyMo and off we went to the library. Small went on his bike. (BTW, my bum is so sore - I haven't been on a bike properly for years - OUCH!!). Smallest scooted and the rest of us walked.

We coloured, stuck, read, chose books, chatted and went off for our lunch at the cafe.

Who knew you could have so much fun with an ice cube?

ClownRose had to change BabyMo's nappy and didn't have a spare one so she had to go without one for over an hour! (just had a call from ClownRose to say that she stayed dry and then went on her potty! ahhhh bless, clever girl!)

We bumped into Small's teacher and she told me that his teacher next year would be the teacher that Smallest has just had (a kindergarten teacher!). Apparently she will do the morning session and work on literacy and he will have an art/drama teacher in the afternoon - not sure what happens to science and math etc! She says that he will be in a class of Grade 4/5 which will be better for him because he had trouble working with the younger ones before. Also she mentioned he would be in a class with higher ability children. As long as he is pushed enough, I think he will be fine. I look forward to seeing what that will be like! I really like his old teacher and she said she came from Kindergarten to Grade 3/4 so hopefully this other teacher will do okay. I do know she is nice but whether she is strict enough, time will tell.

ClownRose bought us all ice creams and we sat on the bench again to eat them. She had to leave us and we went back to the library to find Small's missing cap.

Awful photo of me!

We found it and made our way slowly to swimming. Small did very well. He was used as an example for some of his strokes. However, his diving is still a bit rough, but he is getting better.

Smallest had a great time. He went on the diving board and jumped a few times but instead of at the end, in the middle, I thought he was going to fall and hit his head, but he was fine. We told him to only jump once and only at the end! Scary! He has no fear! He did very well on backstroke. The swimming lady said to me "your children are very good at listening, is that from school?". No, I said, From me! (I'm definitely taking credit for that one!). I wasn't sure of exactly what she said next but it sounded something like "shame I put them with two that don't listen!"

We came home, the boys got there miles ahead of me. It has been a lot cooler today but still a bit sticky. The aircon was turned off this morning as it was cooler outside than in! Strange! Windows and doors are open and a nice breeze blowing.

The kids started their packing for holiday and I am gathering the last of the washing. Huffle came home and we had dinner. Small and I made Rhubarb and Apple Crumble and Custard.

After watching a video about how to vacuum your pool, Huffle and I now fully understand. So we left the kids watching TV while we vacuumed, back washed, rinsed, added various chemicals and filled the pool. We even put a little magic blue gel in so tomorrow the pool will be sparkling blue (pleeeeeaaaaaassseeeee it's not too much to ask).

We got the boys to bed eventually (Smallest was more than a little disruptive at bedtime). I have started reading Harry Potter to Small. He wants to watch the movies (rated 12) and I said he could once we had read the books together.

I cut Huffle's hair (the woolly mammoth!). Then we ate the crumble and watched TV. Nearly holiday time!

Leaky pipe now, is this washing machine saga ever going to end!! Absolutely stunned that you had all that trouble with Home Depot! Where are you going for your hols? Somewhere nice and relaxing hopefully.

Ooh, love that area, driven up that side of the lake many, many times on our way to Tobermory. Stopped in Southampton for a break or lunch before, the beaches are really good there, also in Port Elgin, which is very close to Southampton. Really do enjoy the Northern Michigan, Northern Ontario cottage holidays and have taken quite a few over the years. Goderich is about 1 1/2 hours South of there, brilliant place, great town, excellent local markets in the hexagonal "square" and really great beaches, some of the best on that side of the lake. Wiarton is about half an hour to the North, not a lot in the town but a nice harbour area and fantastic scenery. The Niagara Escarpment cuts through Ontario from the falls all the way to Tobermory and then dives down under the lake. On the East side of the peninsula (Wiarton side) the cliffs are a couple of hundred feet tall, on the West side (Southampton side) it's flat with good beaches. Not a lot going on in Owen Sound either, we were there on a Saturday afternoon in very early September and it was shut!! Might be busier in the summer months though. Lots of Scottish festivals in that area, they're very proud of their heritage. We were talking about that whole area a couple of weeks ago and decided it's been too long since we've been up there and we want to go back next year.

Have a great time,
Brenda
