Don't club that seal!

Everyone slept well. Huffle and I were serenaded by the jazz musicians last night as we went to bed. There was live music in a local restaurant and it drifted our way.

The boys didn't get up too early. They watched Ice Age 3 (they said it was in preparation of seeing Ice Age 4 sometime this holiday!). We had breakfast outside and Skyped Grandma and Grandad and heard all about their holiday that they had just come back from. We are awaiting their 'alternative blog' photos.

With chairs and blanket in hand, we walked to the beach - about a 15-20 minute slow walk.

This is the view from the bridge we cross. Our house is on the left and the beach is further up on the right.

It seemed a lot cooler today with lots of clouds. We didn't get last nights storm and there was another one due this morning but we didn't get that one either. It actually turned into a very very hot day. We had an ice cream on the way.

Mine was White Chocolate Raspberry - not sure who the random lady is but she obviously wanted to get in on the picture

We found a lovely isolated spot on the beach, close to the water's edge. The boys jumped in instantly. Huffle and I hadn't bought our swim suits as we didn't think it was going to be warm enough. I actually ended up swimming in later fully clothed. It was that hot though that I dried out really quickly.

It is a fairly shallow lake to start with. Small swam out quite a way. Smallest went as far as he could walk (and then a little further). They were both putting their swimming lesson skills into practice. Huffle and I got to sit on our chairs and watch them. As well as watching all the other people on the beach who just happened to sit all around us.

We heard a loud squeaking which sounded similar to a seal (we were hoping it wasn't being clubbed) and turned to see our beach neighbours desperately trying to blow up some pink things. They tried for ages but the foot pump didn't seem to be doing much.

then they started blowing it up by mouth

It took ages and ages and ages.....

Honestly, for two smallish pink things (the inflatables, not them) they sure took a lot of blowing up. Then we watched them bobbing around in the lake.

Huffle went off and bought us some pizza to eat on the beach to save us lugging all our stuff backwards and forwards. While he was gone I skyped Moo. The signal was really good and I got to show her the beach and the boys swimming in the lake.

The boys building their castles with their feet!

The boys went looking for interesting stones and found lots that looked like other things.......

There were many more but I left them behind (don't tell the boys!). It was far too hot and we had no shade so we decided to call it a day and walk back.

It was a slow walk, but we got there in the end. The boys have red faces, must put more cream on them. It's hard when they are in the water all the time. Tomorrow we will buy some beach umbrellas so we can get some shade too.

Everyone had showers and we chilled out in the cool garden. We played Small's new card game Sorry Revenge. It's quite good now we know what we are doing. Then we got ready with our picnic and went and listened to a band play on Fairy Lake. Two oldish guys playing guitars singing 50's, 60's and country music. The boys enjoyed it.

They were starting to yawn a lot and had tired eyes so we left before the end and drove to the lake to see the sunset.

There were lots of people waiting for it but it looked like it would be a while so we went home and put the kids to bed.

It is still hot. The storm has now moved to this evening and potentially early hours of the morning with some rain through the night. We need it, the grass here is all brown and dead.

Huffle and I are sitting in the sun room again. We have just seen a woodpecker, who hopped very close the house, a deer has wandered past the window (unfortunately we couldn't get the camera without disturbing him) and then while I was outside trying to see where he went I saw a fox. Proper wildlife country here. Plus this morning we watched a family of black squirrels playing on a tree stump. Very entertaining.
