Two hours of remembering

Today was the ceremony for the Rememberance Day Service in our Hamlet. The boys were required to be there as part of Beavers and Scouts and also to receive their awards for their Posters they made at school.

As the ceremony didn't start until 2pm we went out for dinner first.

Smallest's. Small's.

We joined the throng of people going into the Legion at 1:45pm (it was supposed to start at 2pm but it didn't it was late). Small was asked if he would present a wreath on behalf of the Scouts and went off to find out what to do (he ended up carrying the flag instead). The hall was packed and some people had to stand (for a long time). It started with the piper bag-piping his way through the hall, then the colour party with their flags (including Small), then a sermon by The Right Reverand The Reverand Wright (I can't tell you what he talked about though). National Anthem of Canada and God Save the Queen. We listened to a man with a guitar who sang Imagine and Blowing in the Wind. There was another sermon by a girl from Church and a 'beautiful' rendition of White Cliffs of Dover (reminiscent of Hilda Ogden's singing). Actually as soon as she started singing, Smallest turned to us and said "sounds like Grandma". One of the speakers was very mumbly and we found it difficult to follow what he was saying. There was a man who talked about a picture and the things in it!?, and then we had the poster presentations. Three prizes for each Grade. Small won 3rd prize ($20) and Smallest won 2nd prize ($30). Then all the winners 'dropped poppies' to represent the soldiers who didn't return.

The flags and colours were taken out again and the bugler and bag-piper played outside. There was the laying of the wreaths and poor Small stood there freezing, holding his flag. Two hours later we came home.

We Skyped Grandma and Grandad and the boys played the piano for them.

Tea and a film about Christmas finished our day. (Well it did snow again).

Moo sent us a message the other day to say the lemon curd was on its way that she had booked her flight.

This photo is actually a few days out of date.

I went to The Square for the service, lots there but it was very sunny so cold not an issue and it only took half an hour. The boys posters looked great but just wondering how anyone's singing could sound like Grandma! x
