Seeing Red - Amazing!

We didn't get the forecast storms last night, thank goodness.

It was hard getting up early this morning after a week of getting up when I wanted to. The boys didn't have a problem, they were up at normal time. It was the first time they have been to school here without a coat, hat and gloves. I sent them in fleeces which they weren't happy about but what do I know? They came home moaning that it was too warm and that they should have worn shorts and tee shirts! If it snows again now they will be in shock! Me too!

The weather here today has been fabulous. 22*. Wow!

I mopped the floor in the three-season room twice, it was that dirty. I guess three months worth of dirty, snowy boots have contributed somewhat!

Next I prepared Small's room so that I could paint one wall red. His choice! He wanted his whole room red but I put my foot down. I did careful brushing all around the edges and corners and skirting boards and then rollered two coats of 'Amazing'. Looks good. Small hugged me when he got home (that's enough for me). Now Smallest wants one of his walls painted orange. Ummm we'll see about that. He needs a calming colour, not sure about orange!

You can't really see from this photo bu it was lilac before - not a boy colour at all!

It took ages to clean the roller and the brushes etc., and put Small's room back nicely. Hanging pictures, arranging the notice board, putting up his curtains, fixing plug socket covers. It looks lovely now. Just three more walls to go (Grey this time). That will have to wait until at least Wednesday.

I skyped Moo to show her what I had done, she wanted me to go and paint her walls! Wish I could but can't get there in time for the boys to come home from school. She has just spent a weekend at her friends house. (they've been friends since school - can't tell you how long that is, obviously not too long ago!!!!!).

I had a parcel in the post today. For me? It isn't my birthday? How exciting.

It was from my lovely friend 'York'. Her mum makes these. How thoughtful. What a lovely present. Thank you York for thinking of me, it was a wonderful surprise and is hanging in my kitchen.

When the boys came home they said they wanted to meet their friends on their scooters, so they scooted down the street but their friends never came out. They were really disappointed. Maybe they will be out later.

Small was skyped by his friend MissK, then Small and Smallest played on their DS' while I made dinner. They both had to sit in the shade because it was TOO warm. OMG how will we cope with summer here?

I am being eaten alive by Mosquitos. No-one else, just me. I am full of lumps and bumps and itchiness. Arrrrgggghhhhhh.

I am off to join the Gardening club this evening. I thought it might help us to know what we can and can't plant here and when the best time is. I have to pretty much start again with plant knowledge as it will be so different here I'm guessing. I will report back tomorrow. I am going with Mrs Royal.

I used to work with a backwoods survival specialist...he told me not to eat bananas as something in them attracts mosquitoes...?? Also, Avon "Skin So Soft" lotion repels them...repels most thinks but hey:)

Make sure you have no standing water around your yard etc as that just encourages breeding. Now that they don't spray for them summer is so much fun.

Your mossies are really early, we haven't been bothered by them yet. Mary's advice is spot on, most repellants have DEET in them which is desperately bad for you so check the label before you buy! Love the wall colour and I can't believe how quick you painted it and got everything back together again!

Hugs

Dear Famfa
Your climate is very cold or very hot – mosquitoes help!

I love Small’s room.

I sent a little parcel for Smallest – I hope that arrives.

Enjoy gardening club.

Love Everett Xx
