Truly Canadian?

Everyone got up early this morning (not like us on a Sunday morning). We breakfasted, got ready and were out early too. There was no-one to Skype, must have been out enjoying the sunshine). We went for an outdoor activities buying spree. (and to see if we could pick up anything for Smallest's birthday).

Now he is nearly five he thinks he can choose his own clothes!

We got a street hockey set, a massive cheap bouncy ball (which we have already lost) and a couple of chairs for the garden.

Shopping was a nightmare as usual. Grumpy Huffle, kids want this, that and the other but don't want to behave or look for birthday presents. Tired Mummy, tired of grumpy husband and misbehaving kids and more than a little disappointed with the huge american store that sells everything but doesn't price anything so you have to keep running to the price checker to check how expensive everything is. We ended up buying Smallest a Nerf Gun. I hate guns, I have never bought my boys a gun (apart from a tiny water pistol), but that's what he wants, however so does Small. So Small has bought one too with his own money. We have had to take it off him for now though because otherwise it won't be fair on Smallest. I said that Smallest is allowed to open his gun first, and shoot Small with the six foam bullets and then he can open his, he he he , not sure that will happen!!!

Poor small, he's not feeling too well today. I think his throat is troubling him again. He has been complaining of being cold most of today, and weak and very tired. (yet he is warm to the touch). He didn't eat his breakfast (which is very very unusual), he didn't eat much lunch and he hardly had any dinner. I need him to go to school so I can finish off his bedroom but I will see how he is in the morning.

When we got home we had lunch outside, the sun came out and then went in and then came out again. Temperature got to about 19*. We set up the hockey net (which was easy when we followed the instructions but not so easy when ignored them because things were going so well we thought we could do it on our own).

Put 1a into 3b whilst twisting 9 or is it 6? Then throw net over child and run away.

We threaded the net, got lots of knots, undid lots of knots and finally we had a lovely hockey net. Maybe a small footy goal too? Small was skyped by his friend MissK.

Huffle and I had lots of fun playing hockey together then we got the kids to play too. We moved onto the drive. I got hit by a ball right on my knee (and watched the bruise come out straight away in a round ball like shape!).

Small hit his head on the jungle Jim whilst twisting on the swing. OUCH, he also had a nice bruise on his cheek.

We Skyped HB briefly (Dancing on Ice was on)!

After exhausting ourselves paying hockey, we moved to the bottom of the garden and started clearing the fire pit. We decided we were going to light it and have dinner round it. It was still sunny but the boys were getting cool. We put the tent up and pretended they were camping, except we couldn't find the tent pegs so Smallest had to stay in it to stop the tent flying away. It was a bit windy. How Canadian have we been today? playing Hockey, building a fire pit, I even had a beer round it, Huffle had his Malibu (does that count?).

Look how close this little bird got. He was watching me while I was taking the photo - honestly

Small sat in his deck chair with a blanket around him picking at his dinner (bless). Smallest ate his dinner in the tent.

Huffle felt much better after a good fire session, poking, messing, adding more sticks. Everyone smelt of smoke. Some of the wood was a little damp so there was plenty of smoke about. The boys had their baths/showers and pretty much went straight to bed.

Huffle got a message to ask if he would play football tomorrow after work instead in Tuesday. He is supposed to play in a team top which he was given mid last week. However, he is not so pleased with the team shirt!

"Forgive me Father for I know not what I do!"

We had a message from Mr Burlington Bertie to say that Mrs BB has bought him his own Monopoly Deal so that he can practice. He, he, he. That's funny. He better get practising then because we play a lot!

There has been much sun today in the UK and a few sunburnt people. We think it was about 19*. Same temperature as us. Weird!

Another Telegraph photo. Like this one. Apparently this is a sculpture on the beach!
