Wellies and Ice Cream

Through the night we had a huge downpour of rain which was supposed to go on through the whole day. It did look very dark but we only got rain first thing. We started our day with pancakes and fruit from yesterday's picking. Very nice.

While the boys played nicely together with their Lego, the rest of us got on with a bit of sweeping, mopping, tidying and cleaning. Huffle and Smallest had a few games of Dino Top Trumps and then we all played a couple of games of Go Fish.

When we realised the weather was steadily improving we got dressed in shorts and wellies and drove off to the forest.

The Seaton Trail was where we took ourselves but unfortunately the bridge was under construction and we couldn't get to the trail. The lady in the cafe told us people were ducking over the barriers and carrying on but then also informed us the ice cream wagon had finished altogether (she is hoping to take over her chiller though - the boys told her she should as they would miss the ice creams). We ducked over the barriers and started our walk through the muddy paths of the forest, swatting the mosquitoes as we went. It was very hot and muggy but we continued until we found a perfect picnic place and ate our homemade egg sandwiches and muffins from yesterday.

There were strategically placed logs in a circle and we sat on them and sang Ging Gang Goolie (well I did). I took a panoramic photo and Moo and Huffle moved around to make it look like there were more of them (creepy).

The walk carried on and up a hill and then down again and back out of the forest. It was very hard work as we were getting hotter and stickier. All we could think about was going in the pool. As soon as we got home we all jumped in. Arrrrggggghhhhhhhhhh. Lovely. After cooling down we had a pot of tea and an ice cream and dangled our legs in the cool water.

More swimming, a bit more top trumps, catching and throwing, reading and general silliness and then we went in for dinner and a sit on the porch to catch the early evening sunshine and to watch Hermione the Hummingbird. Considering today's weather was supposed to be awful, it hasn't been a bad one.
