Fall Fair

After a nice lie-in, a slow breakfast and a bit of a play, we drove to Uxbridge and visited the Fall Fair. This started Friday evening and carried on all weekend. Apparently we missed the main events like the Demolition Derby, Tractor Pulling (that's men pulling tractors!) etc., but we did see the vegetable tent where we decided we could grow much bigger and better (but it's having the time to exhibit and being bothered to). We found some interestingly shaped fruit and veg.

While we were looking at the veg we were told we could look at the vintage cars and choose our favourite ones. We got to vote in the spectators choice round.

Small chose a funny looking red sports car. Smallest chose a sparkly car with fire details on it. Huffle and I both chose Thunderbirds, his was a low black 1950's one and mine was a beautiful white angular shaped one (though I did fall in love with the Triumph TR6 as I do love a nice Triumph and my favourite, the Spitfire, wasn't there).

Next we visited the chicken tent which was bizarre. Rows and rows of cages (which I didn't like) with every kind of chicken and rooster you could ever see. Some with lots of strange floppy hair, slippers, wobbly bits on their heads and under their beaks. They were cock-a-doodle doo-ing and vying for attention.

We happened to see a wagon ride and got on, not that we knew where it was going but it was a nice gentle ride around the fair and it was driven by a cowboy.

There was a fairground which the boys wanted to see. It was very noisy with lots of people there. The kids wanted to go on the rides but it cost about $5 per person per ride so we told them they could go on one and they chose the Polar Express. Last time they went on one of these they went very pale very quickly and came off feeling sick and dizzy. Smallest was fine though he said he was happier when it went slower rather than faster and Small came off feeling dizzy.

Food next and Huffle introduced the boys to Corn Dogs (hot dog sausage encased in a corn batter deep fried - looked horrendous). Huffle likes these but says they are naughty! Small liked them no problem and Smallest didn't really like the hot dog part. I had a Corn on the Cob. We sat and watched the horses and then had freshly made mini doughnuts (everything here has cinnamon on it so I had 'powdered sugar' which is icing sugar).

We visited the petting zoo next and petted the donkey who was busy he-hawing and the pig who Smallest said snorted (well there's a surprise). We fed the sheep and goats and got talking to a British Lady I know from the Ex-pat Brit group.

We had a sample of maple syrup and bought a small piece of fudge for later and a couple of honey and maple syrup sweets. Smallest was complaining of being cold even though it was a glorious day and he was hot to touch. He has been coughing like a seal and complaining of a sore throat. I have a cold and a sore throat but don't know if it is Hayfever or not!

We decided to come home and dosed Smallest up on throat sweets, Ribena and Tylenol (paracetamol equivalent). He cooled down and seemed okay but the coughing continued. The boys played on the piano while we cleaned and tidied the sun room and then Smallest, Huffle and I played Junior Monopoly which Huffle won. The boys all played basketball 14 Huffle - 16 boys.

I made an Apple Crumble with next doors Macintosh apples and we had a BBQ dinner.
