3 Sikhs in a Car Park

What promised to be a beautiful day, turned out foggy with that 'fine rain that soaks you through' and then scorching hot humid sunshine. We had intended to go of a bike ride but just as we were ready that awful spitty rain started so we opted for a walk along the lake instead with umbrellas.

First we stopped off for Fish and Chips in Whitby (well it is Labour Day, whatever that means!), and then we drove to the lake. It was heaving with people and we certainly were not expecting it. It was a very ethnic crowd there today. Lots of groups of people. We saw a huge Chinese group cooking, playing kick volleyball (or something like that) and a group of Muslims praying.

Smallest found himself a bird who he tried to feed with grass and wanted to pick him up (if he doesn't become a vet or a zoologist or a Steve Backshall I shall be very surprised!

There were quite a few walking and cycling today. We decided to go in the direction we hadn't been before and although it was a nice walk, it was too far from the beach and lake to see much (plus it was still foggy over the water). Our walk whilst kicking a football one way was pleasant and breezy and not too hot and we encountered lots of friendly people who said Hello or Hi and thank you if we moved out of their way. However, on the way back, it was sticky and people didn't look or speak (I'm sure I wasn't imagining it) and if we moved over to let a bicycle go past or pick up the ball, passers by said nothing so we raspberried them (If this is not a term you are familiar with, we did not throw red fruit at them we just made a general rasping noise) which made us laugh and feel better. We walked for about an hour and a half.

Small ran through the splash pad at the end to cool off and then we got back in the car and proceeded to look for an ice cream place. At a junction a lady sat in her car eating ice cream from a tub with a spoon (yes she was driving!) and I poked my head out and said "ummmmmwhere did you get that from?" She gesticulated and said a name of a place Huffle knew and we eventually found it.

It was a 50's diner, half sold hamburgers etc and he other half was an ice cream parlour. While we perused the many flavours, Huffle decided he was going to have an ice cream float (just like good old Brucciani's) but it was ice cream floated in Root Beer (is stuff is like mouthwash - who would drink it willingly? Aunty Miaow didn't when Uncle Tuc bought her some!), so he decided against it and had a milkshake instead. Small and I followed as we were really thirsty but Smallest who hates anything associated with milk, had a two scooper of Butterscotch and finished it. Our milk shakes were amazing but far too big. Huffle edit, not too big for me although my head felt heavy after it.

Saw this tailed-girl walking by

When we got home, we all played Scabs and Scrapes and then one by one everyone had showers. The boys played on the IPads, I sewed on the porch and Huffle sorted out a movie for us to watch later with tea.

First thing this morning, Huffle emptied out the potato bags to see what we had grown. Not too much. For each potato we planted we got five. Not huge either, still we will do it again next year but maybe we need to research a better potato first.
