Two Blacksmiths and a Chippewa

I forgot to post these photos of Smallest beating Moo at table tennis. He would want me to post them!

A better nights sleep though I was awoken at 4:30am with the wind whistling ferociously and I'm sure I saw snow but when I got up there was nothing. However it did snow on and off later on.

After breakfast Huffle and I packed our bags (for our two nights away in Ottawa by ourselves, kid and Moo free) and then we all headed off for Smallest's football game. Small was game camera man again but this time with a better video camera, though it did run out of battery half way through. Huffle of course commentated through the whole game and today he was quite humorous especially with the referee. The team did really well and played a good game. They won 6-4. Smallest had a shot on goal and it was on target (he would love to score a goal even though he is mainly a defender). The coach gave each player a gift card for subway and a football Christmas tree decoration.

We went for dinner at a local place and came home, grabbed our bags, hugged everyone and left. Smallest was really clingy and huggy, I think he thought we were going for longer. Small got out his tuba and Moo practically pushed us out of the door, ready to get some proper quality time with her boys.

It was snowing very lightly as we left but the further East we drove the snowier it got. Then it stopped. Later on in the journey it got snowier again. We travelled through the most amazing landscape. It felt like a cross between Bradgate Park and the Moors. Very rocky, where the road had just been cut through the huge piles of granite with lakes, rivers and forests. It was very bleak and very beautiful all at the same time. With extremely long and straight roads, it was a pleasure to drive. Normally Huffle can't look while driving but the state of the roads allowed him to see the scenery. We passed through a few random 'interesting' towns too, some ramshackle, some very red neck style. There were many motels, campgrounds and lots of blueberry home baking places, some of which couldn't spell baking without slipping in an 'e' in the middle. Twice we got stuck behind very slow gritters with a long line of traffic behind us. Some of the more impatient drivers behind were taking huge gambles when overtaking. When it got dark and we finally lost the gritters, there were times when we had zero visibility. It was a long hard drive in the end and we finally arrived in Ottawa at 6:30pm ish. We found our bed and breakfast and met Vittorio who gave us maps and told us where to go.

The house was beautiful and our room was lovely. Our bathroom was a small cupboard, thank goodness I hadn't eaten too much yet! We stayed in just long enough to hang our clothes up and use the cupboard and then we went out exploring. I'm glad we took our hat, gloves and scarves, it was freezing. We passed quite a few bums/hobos asking for change or smokes of which we had neither. Huffle wanted something to eat but I persuaded him to go for a drink first. We had a wine and a beer (guess who had which?) in a nice relaxing Irish Pub sitting at the bar listening to live music by a man and a guitar. As we don't really drink much these days, plus we hadn't eaten for ages, the alcohol went straight to our heads and we giggled like silly people.

Then we left and walked to the Italian place that was recommended by our host at the B&B. The only table available was a small two seater next to the door. By now, after one drink (cheap dates) we were too drunk to care where we sat. We had a very good waiter who placed things on our table by magic before we even knew we wanted them, which was good because we probably couldn't talk properly anyway. We had a gorgeous Wild Mushroom and Potato Canelloni with a Truffle infused cream sauce. (Yum yum). We also had a lovely glass of Californian Pinot Noir selected by our magician waiter. We declined dessert purely because there was a chocolate place next door and we wanted to try that after a brief walk to sober up. The chocolate place was full with no tables free but we still queued up despite the fact we were easily the oldest people in there. The service was pretty slow and the menu was extensive. Huffle chose a very nice triple chocolate cake which came in a big brandy glass and was very moussy and light. I chose a crepe with strawberries and although it was nice, Huffles was so much better (though we could have easily shared his).

I called home to let Moo know that Small's friend would be happy to take him to football tomorrow and check all was well. Moo said that there was a light covering of snow and the boys were asleep.

We walked back to the B&B in the cold and snow, made ourselves a Chamomile Tea and watched TV. Our bed is very squeaky!!
