A briefcase of geekiness

It was the day of the Geek Racing today. Sorry, I should say the Cub and Scout Kub Kar Racing. Despite me reminding the boys for the last week or so to get their cars sorted, they still had minor adjustments to do this morning. Unfortunately Huffle wasn't feeling well so I had to help with cleaning paint off wheels, helping to make sure wheels were hammered in straight etc. Huffle did give them a WD40 and a test spin on the kitchen floor.

The boys all watched the Stoke game until just before 11am when I took Smallest to the local Community Centre which incidentally is now called DOCTOR NELSON F TOMLINSON COMMUNTIY CENTRE (I may just call it the Community Centre for now).

This is Doctor Nelson....... And now that I have seen him I'm glad our Community Centre is named after him. What a Jolly man he looks.

The car park was full but we managed to get next to the skip. Registration was at 11am with time for adjustments, filing if too heavy and lubrication. We needed nothing as ours was weighed in at 141g, 9g under (who's being geeky now?). I asked one of the Dad's, who Huffle calls Alan Fartridge, what we did for an hour (I've been before but I hoped he would say something wise which is silly because he IS Alan Fartridge after all) and he said "just sit around......." Right thanks for that Mr F! We did get to vote on the KubKars' designs. One was shaped like Sushi, there was a Minion, a tank........

Smallest and I sat on our own, no-one bothered to talk to us so we played Rat on a Skateboard on my IPAd and I did a bit of knitting. Eventually it was time to race. Smallest came 2nd in his first lot of races (they have to race several times to make sure the different parts of the track are the same), and 1st in his 2nd race. Overall he came third in the race. He also came third in design so he was asked which he wanted to go for in the final, Speed or Design. He decided Speed which means he got a 3rd place trophy but has to race next week too. That gives Grandad a bit of time to make improvements and make it faster. It performed beautifully down the hill but slowed down at the straight! I'm sure Grandad will understand what that means. Smallest did really well and his design was his idea and all his own work. Well done Smallest. Huffle came for the end of the races and the awards and then him and Smallest drove off to football practice.

I took Small home as he wasn't feeling well. He has a bad cold and an upset tummy. I gave him a painkiller and made him a hot lemon, honey and ginger drink but this time I made him have the grated ginger and didn't strain it out. He lay on the sofa and we watched Paddington.

Huffle parked next to this car at football

Smallest and Huffle came back from football. Huffle got told off for being late even though he was on time. Honestly, why does the coach insist everyone gets there half an hour earlier than they play? I am going to have to tell him, if he wants us there before the allotted time, then he has to tell us, we do not have enough time to allocate an exa half an hour for each activity we do! Besides, once Huffle explained where we had been (bearing in mind we told him Smallest wouldn't be there today, he was fine). Smallest had his shower and then we all headed off for Small's 18 wheeler race. Registration was 3pm and we had offered to race one of Small's Scout friends as he couldn't make it but had finished his 18 wheeler. So we arrived with both. Another Scout arrived without his 18 wheeler so he raced for the missing boy. We registered, weighed in and voted for best design (there were just the two so we knew both would get a trophy whatever). Some of the people arriving for the race had their KubKars in special boxes. One even bought a briefcase which when opened, contained the KubKar, a special cloth, tools and digital scales. Huffle told our Scout Leader that we needed one for next year.

The Kars were raced against some others to make it more interesting but the times for our two were kept separate as it was a 'club' thing. The man who was keeping score was very impressed by Small's Kar and kept saying WOW ITS FAST. Apparently it came in at 3 seconds each race and won every time. Once again, Small was asked if he wanted to enter in Speed or Design, and he chose Speed, especially as the scorer came over to me and said "make sure he takes that home and puts it somewhere safe. Do not touch it until next week for the final race. It's quick". Small got a trophy for 1st for the race and the other boy got a trophy for 1st in Design. Small won both really but they can only chose one. Wahooooo. Well done Small, he worked hard on that!

Small wasn't feeling good again so we came home briefly and got changed. Huffle too was feeling wibbly (upset tummy also) but we were all hungry and decided to go out for a quick bite to eat. We picked up some fruit for tomorrow's breakfast too and came home and finished watching Pan from last weekend.

Both boys were very tired and went to bed early.
