The temperature is a quarter last one!

Today was another PA day for the boys so we took full advantage and had a lie-in, a slow breakfast of croissants and a leisurely get ready for a day in Peterborough (a hour's drive away). Funny then that we would take Grandma and Grandad to our Peterborough which is also an hour's drive away. We had to take two cars so we split up with Huffle, Grandma and Small in the VW and me, Grandad and Smallest in the Mummy Wagon.

We kitted everyone out with hats, gloves and coats as the temperature -7

We stopped in the middle of Peterbrough (pronounced Pederbro) and walked to a caffe we had been to before but was too full for our party of six so we headed to another place. Grandad sampled the local brew and Grandma tried the local cider. I had a Curried Chickpea and Apple Burger which was very hot and gave me quite a sore throat, unfortunately it was too hot for me to taste the mango on the top but it was good. Everyone was nicely full and we walked to the Cheese Shop. We didn't realise it was a British Shop and although they didn't have the much wanted Red Leicester, we chatted to the owners for ages as they liked our accents. They did say that England was always rainy, had different houses, bobbies and the food was different - I said well the food has bigger portions here but wasn't that different. We struggled with some words like Sledging - because we should have said tobogganing and they said that Grandmas and my accents were different despite the fact we both come from Leicester.

A sign in the pub

We then got in the cars again and drove to the Lift Lock. It wasn't working but it was nice to see the boys running around and we walked up to the river called Trent Severn although there was very little water in it. I'm sure last year we came here they were skating on the river but there was no ice either.

Our main reason for coming to Peterborough today was to go to the Garden Show. It started at 5pm so we stopped in at Starbucks on the way and had a huge hot chocolate each and a wander around the book shop. We lost Grandad again!

A bar full of hot chocolate drinkers. A sleepy Pluto hatted man. Smallest's new birthday present from us (a waving cat).

It was free parking at the show but by the time we got there (after we found Grandad) there was very little left. Huffle's car had to park over the road and we got a tight squeeze spot that Grandad spied at the last minute. He garden show was free to the kids and inexpensive for the rest of us. It was packed full of plants to buy and we came away with a gorgeous little Hepatica and a Dahlia bulb. There were plenty of garden signs, sculptures and adornments and we also bought a slab of fudge that the boys chose. Grandad stopped for lots of chatter with the vendors who were all very friendly and helpful. We all judged the floral display and had a very quick look at the children's garden which was too young for ours with colouring, crafts and a talk on butterflies. We found Jeff's (work) stand and had a chat with him and he gave us some advice on Cyclamen (ie buy the bulb in the Autumn) and Colcassia (which we didn't buy this time but I am tempted). I also noticed a lot of the plants he was selling I had potted up at some time or another.

Bird feeder, fairy door, robot, our winning floral design and a sign about sparkling which made me giggle because I tell the boys I don't trump, I sparkle. Ha!

We drove home (Smallest fell asleep in our car), had a bit of tea and watched TV.

A very enjoyable day. We would definitely go to that show again.
