Clear the Yard

Despite the fact that we have a big bit of garden at the back of our house with a barn in it, it is still called a yard over here. In England, of course, a yard is a square bit of concrete at the back of a terraced house. So, we cleared our 'yard' today. Huffle and I got stuck in to weeding the bits of garden around the barn. It was very hot (in fact possibly the hottest part of the day). We also weeded the veggie garden and harvested some more veg including more courgettes, Borlotti beans, wonder wax beans, runner beans and broad beans. Plenty of beans then! Oh and one carrot (we still have more to harvest with the beetroot, leeks and parsnips). Later on in the day we cut the grass and raked it all up and got ourselves a few free bites from our resident mosquitoes too. The grass isn't finished so that is one of my jobs for next week.

The boys had lots of time to build Lego (they are entering a competition at the library), play on the IPad and computer and a game on the Wii.

We had a BBQ dinner of homemade burgers and rice and a pudding made by Small and I which consisted of Courgette and Chocolate chip loaf with French Vanilla ice-cream. It was lovely. You couldn't taste the courgette at all but it was really moist. Lots of Vitamin A and the kids couldn't even tell. The recipe only used up one of the big marrow/courgettes and we still have loads left. I may make a soup tomorrow and perhaps a bread. Smallest wants to make chocolate courgette muffins tomorrow.

The boys went in the pool when we deemed it safe. There was a really high amount of free chlorine in it this morning so we left the sun to its own devices and it worked.

We got to Skype Grandma and Grandad and caught up with all their news. Grandma told us that the Great British Bake Off is due to start this week. Wahooooo love it!

Huffle is back to work tomorrow. He is not looking forward to it but I am sure it will all be fine. I have packed him a few pieces of Courgette Loaf for him and his PA. When we put the kids to bed, Smallest gave Huffle his 'Bell of Luck' for tomorrow. This 'bell of luck' came from a Lindt Bunny at Easter and Smallest puts it on his prized teddies. He chose the name and decides what it will be used for. Thoughtful boy.

Last night Huffle and I started watching the new series of Redneck Vacation. This series they are in Yorkshire England. They are staying in a huge country mansion with a Lord. It is very funny. The main part so far has been to try and find American Beer which they are struggling to get. Last night they settled on Carling after trying all of the beers on tap at a Skipton pub.

Will have to try that recipe! The veg growing had gone a bit bonkers here for a second year running, Too much rain followed by scorching sun meant crazy, woody growth! The potatoes have done well though so not all bad ;-)
