Doughnuts at 5 O'Clock George!

WARNING: PHOTO OVERLOAD

It was cloudy and cooler than normal this morning but undeterred we packed a picnic and a car full of beach gear and headed off to Sauble Beach (45mins away). On the way we watched a moth cling to our side mirror and manage to stay holding on until we got to 100kmph. Not bad little moth (Smallest calls them Moffs). We have to keep ourselves amused somehow on journeys.

Once there, we parked up and went in search of an ice cream and a coffee (yesterday I ran out of my special Moo import coffee and bought some on offer in a shop - bad choice, it was awful). Whilst eating our ice-creams we asked a lady if she would take our photo to taunt Grandad with. She noticed we were English and asked if we were 'on vacation'. (We get asked this a lot). Yes we are on holiday but not from England, we live here now. Anyway, her and her partner and his daughter were on holiday from a place not too far from where we live and we got talking. They were very nice and it turns out that he, Fred, real name Alfred, was best friends with Smallest's friend's Grandad (still with me?). We promised to say hi for them as their son and daughter and Grandkids live in our Hamlet. Small world.

Next we walked to the beach, found a nice spot and set up our stuff. We had minimal things today as we didn't want to carry too much plus we had a cool box with our lunch in. There weren't too many people there today though a huge tent was being set up ready for a VolleyBall tournament we think as there were nets all along the beach.

I know the waves don't look big here but I took my phone in the water as far as I dared and the bigger waves were much deeper. (Honest Mrs Rumbleskins).

Everyone went in the water. The waves were huge (Mrs Rumbleskins, honest they were over our heads, surely that is huge?). We couldn't let Smallest in there on his own as he just kept getting swept away and he does insist in diving under the waves. It scares me to watch him but he is very confident and seems to know what he is doing.

We forgot the football so lots of Jackers were played and we built a sandcastle of course. The sand there was very workable, not fine or dry, just wet and clumpy. Good for walls but not great for castles. Still we persevered and did a good job.

Because the sand had been 'groomed' it looked like we were sitting in a muddy field. The view on the top is the less popular side (far away from eateries etc, and the view over the top of Huffle's head is the popular side. We of course sat in the middle. Everyone sits at approximately two metres apart. It's very funny to watch them decide where they will sit.

More swimming, body boarding, yoda jumping over waves. More jackers and a bit of reading. We stayed on there until 6pm and then went in search of dinner.

Smallest wanted to be buried but after our warning we decided to just bury his legs and make them muscly and long with huge feet. He of course built himself a new huge 'Winky'.

George was our resident seagull who belonged to us, no other seagull was allowed near us, even though we didn't have any food at that point. They are a funny bird to watch.

Last year we ate at a place that was not bad and had a good choice so we tried there. Perfect. The boys had spaghetti and meatballs and I had a lovely Veggie burger made with vegetables and rice. Huffle had a chicken burger. Although tempted by the desserts, we chose instead to drive to Southampton to see if the piper was piping the sunset. Of course, while there we had to partake in a little ice-cream (two in one day - uuurrrggghh). Wandering down the street, checking out the vintage cars while the sun goes down - what could be better?

The piper only pipes on a Friday so we missed him but we did get a walk on the boardwalk, a swing and some amazing photos of the sunset before driving back home and being wowed by the amazing skies, clouds and mists forming over the farmers fields.

What a great day. Just to bore you, some of my photos of other stuff.
