I slept terribly last night. I don't know if I had too much sun but I kept going hot and cold and felt sick. So I had a nice lie-in this morning.
After breakfast and temperature forecast of 17*, we decided to explore Goderich (about an hours drive away). We drove along the scenic route along the lake and into Kincardine where there was a market blocking the road, which took us off the scenic route and along the quicker roads.
Goderich boasts 'The prettiest Town in Canada'. Not that we ever believe what we read as we like to make up our own minds, which is normally different to everyone else's.
I particularly liked this statue (Small asked it he was a construction worker!!!)
The middle of the town had a great bit for scooting so Small and Smallest were happy. We started by walking around the flea market which was not great, so we carried on towards the beach and harbour. We knew we were quite high up so thought we might get a nice view. We found a park that had interesting wooden sculptures, plants and a view of the harbour. To say it was pretty was a very tall tale indeed. The harbour was dwarfed by a huge power plant. Some of it painted blue to possibly match the water but it certainly did not look pretty. What a shame.
The Harbour Park was looked after by the Lions and was nicely maintained. the Top Right photo was the disappointing 'pretty view'
The boys played, Huffle found a new Lady (I bet shes wooden')
We went in search of dinner. We dismissed the pub at the top of the hill as it was a Grill place (though on reflection we probably should have just stayed there). Next we tried a place that looked really nice but very busy. There was already a group of four waiting but no-one had been to tell them how long it would be. We stood and waited for a while but still no-one came so we walked out. There was an Irish Hotel that served food and we gave that a go even though a lady outside said no-one was serving and she had walked out! Not a good sign. When we walked in we got served pretty quickly. Wish we hadn't. The food took ages and when it did come, Huffle and I had fish and chips, it was awful. Over fried (in fact at 6pm Huffle was still holding his stomach as the meal was repeating viciously on him). Small said his was nice, he had tortellini and Smallest and Mac n Cheese which he liked but it wasn't very tasty. We hurried away from there and drove down to the harbour where we walked for 1.5 miles along the boardwalk. Smallest scooted.
Just a few photos that amused me
Once we got to the end we found an ice cream place and indulged whilst watching the brown and dark green blue lake. It was the same lake we were at but for some reason they had had problems with silt and it was causing the water to be a yukky mess. Small and I climbed 140 steps to the top of the hill, waved at Huffle and Smallest, had a walk up there, took some photos and then walked down again. The going up was tough but the coming down was easy. We walked all the way back along the boardwalk again and back to the car.
Again we drove to Kincardine where the market finished an hour before and there was music in the park. We sat down to listen to it, it seemed very good. The lady singer was just finishing a song and introducing her band and then it was over. So we came back to the house, had a quick sandwich and then walked on our beach from one end to the other. Along the way, we chatted, jumped, played football, broke sandcastles (well Smallest did), laughed, watched people and then tried to float our origami boats that we made this morning. A man and a boy had dammed the bit of river that we normally played pooh sticks in so we had to use another bit. We sailed our boats and they became a soggy mess and disappeared into the lake. It was recyclable paper so hopefully it is biodegradable. I think mine might be sailing over to Michigan right now - look out for it Brenda, its yellow and says HMS Famfa on the side. Smallest fell into the dam when trying to jump over it. We had said to them before we went out, if they didn't get too wet or sandy, they wouldn't have to have a shower (stinky boys). Smallest got himself in a right mess.
We walked all the way back. We sat on a log and played Chinese Whispers or Broken Telephone as it is known over here. One of them made us all giggle a lot. It was nice to laugh as Smallest has been a bit grumpy, tired and pushing the boundaries today.
We were about to come off the beach and go back when we realised we didn't have Smallest's shoes. When he fell into the dam, he threw his crocs onto the sand and left them there. Poor Huffle had to walk all the way back to get them and he let us sit on the log and wait for him because we couldn't walk back without them! To be fair, I think Huffle got the best deal. Ten Minutes walking on the beach by himself - lucky so and so.
When Small went to brush his teeth and came out to watch some TV, we heard Smallest say to him "go and wipe your mouth Small!" and he did. They are a funny pair.
