Boo to the Vegetarians*

Those cigar smoking boys were joined last night by two other beer carrying dudes and so a party ensued. How long this party went on for, we don't know, but it was loud enough for us to close our windows though it was hot. Huffle and I were too exhausted to worry too much though. Hopefully they are only here for the weekend and not the whole week!

After breakfast, paper folding (I have been trying to master an origami crane without much luck) colouring and reading we finally headed off for our beach. It was very blustery but warm. In fact, if the wind hadn't been blowing, it would have been too hot to sit there.

We went to a different part of the beach today. Right at the other side of the rope markers, with the intention to put off the lazier of sand dwellers and keep them away from us. Yay, it worked. Where we put ourselves, there were a lot of cottages almost built onto the sand, so the majority of people that camped there were the cottagers themselves. (I know what cottagers means in the UK and it took some getting used to when we first moved. "Oh are you going cottaging this year" Huffle and I burst into fits of giggles and say "certainly not!").

Just in case of any 'metre-beaters' we made an enormous sandcastle/town with tunnels, steps, turrets, moats, walls and mountains. We had quite a few ogles from passers-by. I was chief sandcastle maker, moat maker and architect. Small was my right hand man, maker of houses and chief bossy boots. Smallest was stick fetcher and bridge builder and moat clearer. Huffle was stone collecter and wall builder plus water carrier. We make a fabulous team.

We also made a draughts board and taught Smallest how to play. He was good. He almost beat Small. The boys had a sand wrestle until it got a bit violent! There were many more people on the beach today as it is a long weekend with the Civic Holiday on Monday.

The boys went in the lake, swimming and body boarding. Smallest's body board almost snapped in two (and we only bought it the other day) so that is going back to be replaced. Huffle went body boarding too. Smallest was making us burgers and chicken soup with sand and when he got to me he said "oh you can't have it we only do meat and started chanting "boo to the vegetarians!"'

By 4:30pm we gave up and came away. Everyone showered and got ready (which took considerable time. I am so grateful for our two showers back home. Four people in one tiny bathroom with only one shower is hard work, especially when trying to go out for the evening!) and we drove to Kincardine for dinner and to watch the Piper Parade.

Once parked up, we went to a bar called Hawgs Breath Saloon. There were no free tables so we all sat at the bar. The kids loved it. I asked for a beer and got a pint (I can't remember the last time I drank a pint, hooooweeeeee).

This place boasted no fried foods so Huffle thought it might be a nice change. Huffle had Chicken Gumbo Soup (very hot but good) and shared a Chicken Parmigiana with Smallest (very very good). Small had a grilled cheese sandwich but it was made on a puffy pitta which was lovely and he dipped it in my Asparagus and Goats Cheese soup which was amazing, served with Garlic Bread.

Next stop was ice-creams. Mint Choc, Strawberries and Cream, Hokey Pokey and Espresso Flake. All very good. We ate them whilst walking down the Main Street waiting for the pipers.

The Jesus lookalike was not me, just a random man standing waiting (Im sure i have taken a photo of him before).

We found our spot which happened to be next to a group of people who we got chatting to. They were camping at the Provincial Park along our beach. Two came from Ireland in 1975 and the rest were from London Ontario. They were really nice and told us about an 'all you can eat fish and chips' place tomorrow followed by music in Port Elgin.

The Pipers came. A huge band of them all in their own special kilts, bag piping, marching or drumming. The walked up the road (apparently stopped for a cigarette at one end) and walked back down. The crowds of people followed behind them there and back and then the pipers did a concert on the park followed by fireworks much later.

The boys were already tired so we decided to leave once the parade was over and went down to the harbour to catch the sunset, but we just missed it. The clouds and sky were amazing this evening. All pinky and orange.

Another car has turned up across the road but Huffle is hoping that the blustery winds will stop them partying outside tonight. He says their cigars will blow out! We actually saw them on the beach today, eyeing up the young girls and playing topless volleyball.
