Unofficial Party Pile-on

Today was Grandmas birthday and we had decided to have a party for her but also for Smallest too. It isn't his birthday till the end of the month but one of the things he desperately misses since we moved to Canada, is a good old family party.

This morning after showers, breakfast and a go-go battle, we all went for a walk. We wandered along the country lanes near our barn for over an hour. It was sunshiney but cool. We looked at the sheep and couldn't find Gerry the black sheep so found a new one and named her Baabara. She came to see us, stood in front of the gate and had a wee, then walked away. Well that was nice!

The gate the boys are on is Gerry the sheep's field. Where is he?

Our walk took us to the canal and we walked along it to the bend, saw a fisherman, decided we were too noisy to be near anyone fishing and walked back to the bridge where we played Pooh Sticks.

Still looking for Gerry, Baarbara and the canal.

As the time was getting on, we walked back along the lane and back to the barn. Smallest got all moody and walked on ahead of us and then wouldn't talk to us for ages.

Us, canal, Pooh Sticks and more sheep

What does this sign mean?, pooh sticks, fishing and a moody boy.

Next we met Grandma, Grandad, Moo, HB and CousinPest at a pub near Grandmas house. There we had a carvery. Moo, Small and I shared two veggie meals which Moo complained about because the pastry was so bad and they took it them off the bill. The rest of the meal was good and we declined pudding and went back to Grandmas.

Smallest, CousinPest, Small. Grandad and Huffle.

HB and Grandma. Moo and I.

HB and I went off to a supermarket to pick up a few things for Aunt Pear who wasn't feeling well and some things for the party later.

Meanwhile the rest were playing cricket in the back garden. In between cricket, there were a few games of swingball. We sang Happy Birthday to Grandma and had a piece of cake.

Grandmas cake, cricket and a dodgy UncPear playing the tennis racquet.

Moo, Grandma and I made sandwiches and the party began. We were joined by UncPear and GP and Uncle Grump. Smallest had requested cheese triangles, egg and ham sandwiches. Followed by St Clements fairy cakes (Grandma invention), jelly and ice cream, trifle (including Baileys Trifle which I think was my request yum yum). Grandma and Uncle Grump lit Smallest's cake and we sang Happy Birthday again. Smallest asked if it was for him and we said No so he started singing, not really knowing who he was singing for. When he realised we were singing for him, he was over the moon. He blew out his special coloured flamed candles and then we got to see the cake. It had a photo of Smallest dressed in his halloween costume a couple of years ago. Very funny!

GP ate too much cake, HB put Smallest in a present bag, CousinPest looks like a Freddo Frog and the settee scary folk.

Smallest's cake, pile-on and presents.

We had cake, he opened a few presents; a Freddo Frog toy, a couple of t-shirts, chocolates, lego, pens and a yo-yo. He had a lovely time. There was, of course, a couple of pile-ons and then we made up a new tradition, kiss-ons, which was just lots of hugging and kisses. We said our goodbyes to HB (she is going back to Uni) she needed lots of hugs, we will miss her lots (me especially).

Smallest got sleepy and we left to come back and put them to bed. We said our goodbyes to Uncle Grump, though the boys gave more raspberries than kisses and hugs. Once home, the boys went straight to bed and Huffle and I watched TV with a cuppa.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANDMA.

I was thinking the same as WW! You're going to need a holiday to get over the holiday when you get back! I think that sign means no u-turns for canal boats! Wouldn't want them getting stuck would we?
