Anniversary carrot Japes

HAPPY LABOUR DAY. Labour Day is always the first Monday of September and originally was to give workers a chance to negotiate better pay or conditions. Nowadays it's more about making it a long weekend and a last chance for people to take a break for the end of Summer. For us, it's the last day of Summer Holidays for the kids as they go back to school tomorrow and is also the last day of Huffle's mini break as he is also back to work tomorrow.

We had a nice slow morning with the boys putting on a show for Huffle and I for our Wedding Anniversary which is actually tomorrow also but as they will be at school, they wanted to do something today. Smallest's room was awash with stuffed toys whilst they worked out what they were going to do to entertain us. They started with magical tricks and illusions. We were asked to hold a book with a piece of paper hidden inside. We weren't allowed to look in the book. After various tricks, Huffle was asked some sums and then asked to name a vegetable. He said CARROT and when he looked inside the book, the piece of paper said carrot. They did some mind reading using various stuffed toys and then they went off again to practice the second part.

I picked vegetables and got several courgettes, a few beans and a handful of tomatoes (which next door Yoda said were very nice) so I put them on the windowsill to ripen fully before I do anything with them this time. Our second performance included lots of jokes from the stuffed toys plus cards the boys had made and a present of a Mug Cake mix - hurrah. We were very entertained.

Huffle decided we would go out for dinner and look for an anniversary gift on the way. We stopped at a garden centre which was so overpriced we left in disgust. We think we might buy ourselves a nice structure for the garden for the honeysuckle to clamber up but after looking at another garden centre on the way home, we gave up.

For dinner we stopped at a place that used to be a good milkshake/ice cream place but also a very greasy spoon. Now it is a refurbished place that isn't greasy, the food is very nice, but isn't quite a restaurant. It has tables but the food was served in metal trays lined with paper. I can't bear eating off paper, I don't get it! However the food was good and the owner came to talk to us to see if everything was okay. I think we will go back.

At home we all relaxed. The boys watched England v Slovakia and I watched TV on the porch with my headphones. It was very hot today and humid with severe storms threatening.

Huffle and I took Smallest to football practice and Small stayed at home enjoying his last bit of freedom before High School. The weather was very weird with the most spectacular clouds I have ever seen. I half expected Voldemort to appear. They were really freaky. After the clouds came huge spots of rain and then thunder and lightning, at which point the practice was cut short. Smallest asked if he could go into midfield and the coach told him he was going to put him there anyway. He played well but soon realised how much harder it was. He was exhausted. I had a good long walk for half of the practice and dodged the rain for the other half.

Lots of cloud photos coming..........

Back home we tried to watch PiratesOfTheCaribbean2 but the storm made Huffle shut himself in the basement so we abondoned it and watched CatchPhrase instead. Between us we got them all (we are thinking of applying for it ha ha).
