Where can I buy a book?

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY HUFFLE. 17 years. WOW? That's gone by quick. We didn't celebrate but we may go out tomorrow and if that doesn't happen we will celebrate on Saturday as we are in Toronto for a baseball game.

I got up far too early in order to make three lunches, two of which were not needed (hurumph). Small had a pizza lunch so his wasn't eaten and I brought mine home so mine wasn't needed either. Smallest ate all of his except his orange which was fluffy!!?!

No a fabulus photo but all I could manage before we all rushed out

Small went off to get his bus which picked him up just down the road and arrived around 8am. Apparently we have three different busses in The Hamlet. It's a tiny village and there are not that many kids (unless they are all hiding). Two kids that live a stones throw from each other are on different busses which is weird. Small got to school by about 8:20am, and not much longer after that I arrived. He was with his friends and didn't really want to talk to me. Too cool now to talk to his mum, however one of his friends said Hi and waved (which is more than he did to his own mum. Aren't they funny?).

We then went to assembley where we learned what was going to happen for the rest of the day. It was very overwhelming. The kids were put into their groups for Home Room and followed a big banner to where they needed to go. The parents just followed along blindly. Small's home room was small and there was not a lot of room between desks. No room in the desks for anything, everything has to go in their newly assigned locker, which, for Small, is miles away from any classroom he is in at all this semester. We met his form room teacher (we think, we are a little confused about the form room and it's purpose) who is also his English Teacher. He was very strict, spoke far too quickly, appears quite nerdy (first impression) but has a kind of sense of humour. He gave the class homework and asked them to read five pages of a document he had created himself in his own time and complete the questions. Basically it is to get them up to speed. In Elementary School here they basically don't seem to encourage them to spell or use the best grammar or even worry about those things and yet in High School............ so annoying! When Small got home later, he did it in no time as it is all things he already knows. I am quite pleased that Huffle and I demand spellings from time to time from both boys and correct their grammar when it is incorrect. I know I am not the best (look at this blog!!)......... but! English Teacher demands no gadgets in home room!

Science was next which seems to me to be over the other part of the school and upstairs! This teacher I liked. Firm but friendly. No hats or gum. Yes I like her already. Allowed to be late for class for the first week due to finding their feet but after that NO WAY! Maths was next with a very laid back calm teacher. He will have no trouble here definitely. They don't even have to sit at desks, there are yoga balls and bean bag chairs! Next class French which we just followed a boy who seems to be in most of Small's class and asks lots of questions and had a map and a cardi - where did he get that from?, the map not the cardi. The French Teacher said she would get everyone up to speed quickly and concentrate on Grade 3-8 French in the first month. She didn't care if students got a 51% if they were happy and their parents were happy but if parents were expecting a 70% and they got 51%, then there was trouble. She was looking forward to phoning home to say "thank you for giving me a wonderful student to teach". She thanked me for coming to her class. Nice.

Small then left me to get his pizza lunch and I went to a parents meeting where we were patronised a little and spoken to like we were children (in my opinion though I later found out that Small had the same presentation and talk). Basically it told us how we should look after our kids, full night's sleep, not too much gadget time, give them chores, be supportive, talk to them. I needed a presentation to hear this? There was a policewoman there who chatted about drugs enforcement and social media dos and don'ts. Finally we got to leave. Small had an afternoon of photo taking, same presentation as the parents and some games in the gym. He had a headache and was weary when he got home. Me too!

Smallest had a good day, not much work, mainly going over the rules of everything. His homework was to find three articles that best described himself. He chose a ticket from the first football game he went to (just happens to be Stoke), a frog (his favourite animal plus he is the frog man) and an England Flag he painted when he got home. His main teacher is Paddington'sDad and he has two other teachers. MmeChocolate and MrsChildHater. We discussed what each teacher was teaching and we think we will be okay. Phew!

We were going to go out for dinner but I had a bit of a meltdown and among other things I was worried that Small needed to get his homework done and didn't want to rush him. Our washing machine should have been fixed today and the man brought and fitted the new part but it now needs another part which won't be available until at least Friday. Today has been a major day for all and Smallest came home and kept crying every time I spoke to him which made me cry and between us we were wrecks. I decided it was easier to make dinner but never made anything for myself because I was too upset. Small found his homework was really easy and finished it in no time. Anyway, to cut a long story short, we played a game of Wizard (card game - very good) and everyone went to bed early.

New day tomorrow.
