The day we set the cottage on fire.....

Today was due to be a stormy, rainy day. (we got neither in the end). When we got up, it was dull and cloudy, still warm though. We had breakfast and tried to watch the Olympics using a dodgy Internet link. It kept cutting out during crucial moments. We got to see Gemma (Judo) get a Silver plus the matches leading up to it. We saw the men's kayak get Silver and Gold. We watched the boxing get qualified and then we played a couple of games of Monopoly Deal.

After clearing up and getting ready, we set off to get Smallest new crocs as he broke his. We also picked up some ingredients to make a pizza later. We stopped off for lunch at a nice independent cafe selling Pitas, Wraps and Sandwiches. Lovely fresh ingredients. nice.

Then we walked to the Cinema and watched Ice Age 4. It was surprisingly good. Considering it was the fourth movie in a series, it was very entertaining. We took our own Maltesers and Werthers in and munched our way through the film.

Then we went to the local Museum. The woman behind the desk said "oh you missed all the fun". "oh what was that then?" I said. "A titanic movie and a reconstruction of a battle but don't worry, we'll do it again shortly". She then looked at us as if she didn't know why we were there. Huffle said "2 adults and 2 children please". Yes she said and sat down. Then stood up and said "yes come round this way" pointing to another bit of the desk. We walked round and she sat down and looked at us and "yes?". We chuckled and she said "ah yes right". Then she took our money and told us when the things were happening. She said we had enough time to go upstairs and see the creepy crawly exhibition. I wasn't too keen as I am not a fan of spiders and suchlike. I needn't have been worried. When we got up there, there was a shrinking machine. We walked through it and entered a world of enormous bugs.

There wasn't a real bug in sight, thank goodness.

Ooooh look at that big bug!
What's in here?
A ladybug (ladybird) car with moveable lights

Driving the lady big car

Too big for his boots!

Following in Grandad 'Icks shoes!

...and this is the gold watch given to the lighthouse keeper that we read about last week. Huffle looking very pleased with the watch (like the man in the photo)

Then we went down to look at the replica of the wreck that was found on the local beach. They uncovered it on the beach in 2001 and then covered it all back up again to preserve it. To me, this is a waste as no one can see it. Why not take it into the museum for people to look at or stick a big sheet of Perspex over the top where they found it? Anyway, they have since built a replica of the boat as it would have been (not wrecked) and they have a man there dressed as a sailor of the times, showing how the cannon was loaded and that all the bits on the boat are for. We looked around the rest of the museum and then watched the ten minute film about Titanic. It was interesting but not anything new really.

As we came out we heard a big bang from the boat and went to see what it was. We had just missed the cannon being set off. The man dressed up said he would do it again for us. He explained it all, get the boys to position the cannon in the right place to shoot another ship and then got Small to light it. BANG. The boys thought it was cool.

We were told the Museum closd at 5pm so we had a look around the outside and found an old school house and an old house (which look very similar to the one we are staying in). At 4:45 a man outside started chaining all the tables and chairs up. At 4:55 we were told it was 5pm and we had to go!! They obviously wanted go home early.

We came home and started the pizzas. We found we didn't have a tin opener so I had to pop two doors away and ask to borrow theirs. The lady there was very nice and opened our tin for us.

We made the pizzas and put them in the oven. We wanted to melt some butter so put some in a bowl and put it on the oven. When Huffle tried to get it out he spilt a bit on the bottom of the oven. I wiped it quickly with kitchen roll and out it on the work surface. I turned round and the kitchen roll was on fire. how did that happen? I picked it up and tried to throw it in the sink but dropped it on the rug as it burnt my hands. Huffle shouted "pick it up, pick it up!". (i had nothing to pick it up with, although i didn't know if he meant pick up the fire or pick up the rug, either way, I didn't!). He threw a glass of water on the kitchen roll fire and rug and then carried the rug outside. Whoops. We have ruined the rug though it doesn't look like an expensive one or a new one for that matter. Did the kitchen roll self combust? It wasn't touching anything hot. Weird!

we ate our pizza and garlic bread and then cleared everything away and washed up. Then we payed two games of Monopoly Deal of which Huffle won. The boys went and watched a bit of Shrek while Huffle and I played three more games of Monopoly Deal. I needed to win! I won the last one.

Small has a hurt back. We advised him to rest it and sleep. Smallest has a cut knee which had a plaster on and now we've taken it off and we advised him to rest and sleep. Smallest also fell on some stairs today and 'broke' his arm which miraculously mended itself within minutes. Again we advised sleep and rest.

Tomorrow is our last full day and we should be going home on Saturday, However, in true Huffle and I spy type, we will probably go home tomorrow evening and let the kids sleep in the car on the way home, therefore getting a full weekend at home before work. (well for Huffle, not for me or the kids!)

Well done to the velodrome boys for getting another Gold (which we couldn't watch because the signal has gone wibbly! Hope it's back for tomorrow!
