Cheesy Peas!

Neither AuntyA nor I slept well last night. Our sound-proofed room was definitely NOT sound-proof as the man in the room next to us woke me as he banged the bathroom door shut. At least his door did shut, ours never! I tried not to breathe too loudly, I thought AA was stuck in the bathroom when it was the noise of next door, we both snored and so did the man next door!! Both of us were tired when we woke up properly.

After showers, we went to breakfast in the old part of the house. We had crepes, fruit, pastry and coffee. Perfect. After we cleared our room and paid our bill, we drove back towards Niagara-on-the-Lake and stopped off whenever we saw something we liked the look of which was often. Our first main stop of the day was the Spanish Aero Car which was suspended high over the Whirlpool gorge and River Niagara. I wasn't sure about going on this as I am not a fan of cable cars, but it happened to be the smoothest ride ever.

We were a little early so we took photos and watched the Police Helicopter doing its training which was very cool. It was incredibly hot today (28* and humid, who knows what the humidity was). Eventually we were called to go on the Aero Car (there were only about eight of us so it was easy to see below). We were 76m above the river and we travelled a trip of 1km. The car has been operating since 1916. It was a great view and a really cool thing for us to do.

We wandered around the gift shop, took a few more photos and then got in our car and travelled a bit further down the the river to a place we saw yesterday where there were stairs down. I didn't personally like the stairs as they were metal and I could see through to the bottom. It was quite a way. When we got to the bottom we carried on walking down stone steps, forests trail and over huge rocks and boulders. It took us a while and it was still very hot, eventually we got to the very edge of the very fast running water. We found a perfect rock to sit on right by the waters edge and sat mesmerized by the river. Just a stones throw from us across the fast paced water was America. I paddled my feet in which was very refreshing but it was very very deep and there was absolutely no way you could swim (despite the fact the water was freezing) and a boat would have been ripped to pieces. We could see people on the other side walking (USA) and there were fishermen both sides. We stayed for ages (at least until we had eaten all our snacks which included a bottle of water each and a tiny packet of chocolate mini eggs. As it was so very hot, we decided to make our way back via another rock we sat on for while. It seemed easier to get back than the journey down and found the steps back up which was tough.

We came out to the park, shaded ourselves under a tree, took a few photos and drove off in search of proper food. We happened upon a tiny tiny church and a food place but it wasn't properly open so we carried on until we found the Botanical Gardens. The sign said there was a cafe so we parked and went in. The cafe was rubbish so we got a water and walked through the hot humid gardens which were lovely but offered little shade. We checked out the vegetable garden and the rose garden, walked through some trees and sat under a lovely big magnolia.

We struggled to find anywhere to eat and ended up back in Niagara-on-the-lake but felt we didn't have enough time for a proper stop so we met a lovely man called Bill&Ted (our name for him) in a petrol station and bought ourselves some crisps, chocolate and a drink, then we made our arduous way back home. It was a long two hours drive and we were about to hit very heavy Friday afternoon traffic but at the last minute we switched on the Toll Road so that we could get home earlyish. It was a brilliant road, with not too much traffic and it moved really well.

Back home we handed out our presents, Jam and Marmalade for Huffle, Arcade sticky window things and erasers for the boys and a cup tea for all the grown ups. It was good to be back home but AA and I had a wonderful mini break together. We thoroughly enjoyed it.

A few photos I didn't manage to post plus yesterday's post now has some added too in case there aren't enough here!

Poor Huffle was not well and was really struggling. We all made pizza for dinner later and sat and watched Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Everyone is tired.
