Today is Canadian 'Take your Aunty to Work Day'. Unfortunately I don't have any aunties here so I took Aunty A to work with me this morning. (Not a real Aunty, just a friend of the family - Quote Peter Kay). After the boys went to school, off we went to the Nursery armed with my bag of gardening supplies. MrsM asked me to give Aunty A a tour of the gardens while she found something for us to do.
Hellebores and a carpet of bulbs
We started in the Potage (posh vegetable garden as MrsM called it) where Aunty A became an expert pea planter and Leek Girl. Her Leeks were standing along the borders very proudly. I planted lettuce, kale, chard, broccoli and mustard. We stopped for coffee and a delicious Cashew, Coconut and Lime Shortbread. We had a good mornings planting and managed to bring home lettuce, broccoli, wood chips, corydalis and snowdrops plus some seeds for Grandad (Aunty A will be bringing these home - unless you are a customs man at Toronto - and posting them).
What a lovely line of peas (you should have seen her leeks!)
At home, we had lunch, a quick trip out to get some stuff to help with AA's heartburn, trampolining (after her heartburn had gone) and a bit of planting before sitting on the porch with a cup of tea and a maple biscuit.
When the boys came home they joined us and then we prepared dinner. The kids had an early dinner and then Aunty A and I took Smallest swimming. Smallest now seems to have a bad cough (barking like a seal) and a full blown cold. His hayfever seems under control and we bought him some lozenges for his sore throat.
This is the face that Smallest came home with. Apparently you can easily get this look by mixing water with broken pencils.
