Aunty A and I went on holiday today. As the boys were waiting for their school bus and I ran off to find their hats, AA said "now we won't be here when you get home and we need you to look after Daddy". Then I gave them their hats and said "now we won't be here when you get home......." YES WE KNOW AA JUST TOLD US, WE HAVE TO LOOK AFTER DADDY. Huffle is not feeling too well as he is suffering with a sore throat and a cold.
AA and I started our journey around 11am (which was about an hour after we were planning to leave). We drove to Niagara-on-the-lake trying to avoid the Toll Route and successfully managed to find our way without paying (Huffle will be pleased). AA was an excellent driving companion. She didn't need the toilet on the way and she never once asked "are we there yet?".
We arrived at Niagara-on-the-lake and it was a little chilly (not cold chilly but a breeze off the lake chilly) but once we got on the sunshiney side of the street, it was lovely. We wandered onto a golf course and walked towards the lake and an old Fort. There was a big gate open (probably wasn't supposed to be open) that we wandered through and climbed down some rocks and steps and along by the lake. It was lovely.
Lunch was eaten in an Irish Pub with a massive man sized bee which buzzed dangerously above our heads. I had to send my lunch back because it was on marble rye bread (my most hated type of bread ever) even though it said what it was on the menu. My second choice was perfect though.
A bit more wandering and shopping and perusing and we got back on the road again. This time along beautiful roads with parks and golf courses on one side and the river on the other. We stopped off at one point and had a walk but it was very hot and we took our pale British Skin back to the car.
When we found our B&B, the car park had a big hole in it and there was obviously some renovations going on. Our room was in the new part which was disappointing and there was a loud buzzing. AA found it was the fridge so she turned it off.
We quickly called home (my home) and spoke to Smallest and Huffle. All was well and dinner had been eaten. We promised to take photos of the nighttime falls and fireworks, ordered breakfast for tomorrow morning and made our way out towards the falls.
The rest of this was written after a few beers (just saying!)
It was a pleasant walk and a new place for me as I hadn't walked that way before. We made our way slowly taking many photos on the way.
We walked all the way to the end of the falls trying to take selfies that just didn't work because our hair was messed up by the mist of the falls. AA couldn't believe the noise but liked it anyway. We checked when the fireworks were on and then realised they weren't on unless it was a Friday, Saturday or Holiday and only after 17 May!
We were a little disappointed but consoled ourselves with a walk back, a huge uphill walk and a big pint of beer. Bearing in mind I don't drink more than a half a pint or a bottle at any one time, I desperately needed to eat else I would have fallen over.
We checked Trip Adviser which helped us to find a nice Italian restaurant on 'Tat Alley'. We had a nice meal and were served by an older waitress with selective hearing who bought too many beers out plus dessert even though we didn't ask for one - cheeky. We declined, paid and started our walk back.
We happened upon an arcade where we each bought a few tokens and played a few machines (we said we were going to the casino but in reality neither of us were brave enough to go in, plus it was too far away after our meal). We won loads of tickets and went and cashed them in. We won '72' which actually only got us a couple of sticky window things and a handful of tiny erasers. I think the lady who cashed in our tokens felt sorry for us and gave us 31 of someone else's tickets which meant we got an extra sticky window thing and a couple more erasers, oh the boys will be pleased.
There was much hilarity, a quick look at the lit falls and a walk back to our B&B where AA checked the election results and I blogged.
P.s. The wifi is too weak to load my photos. They will follow when I find a better signal.
