It was a hot hot day today with temperatures up to around 29/30* and quite airless. We decided to go for a walk to ease Huffle's leg and get the boys out for a run around. We went to Petticoat Creek today which is on the opposite side of the bay to Frenchmans Bay where we went on Canada's Day. Unfortunately we had to pay to get in but just for us adults, so it's fair to say we expected something amazing. Once we had parked we we found we were in a big green space, next to the lake (Ontario) in somewhere I would liken to Abbey Park, Leicester, without the river, bridges, ruins and Cafe.
Parkland |
We walked along the lake dodging the odd cyclists. The park was full of people with barbecues and lots of people joining parties and reunions. It seems it is a very Canadian thing to do, to take your BBQ (charcoal only) and your food and cook it in the middle of a park. Nice if you are in a huge group I suppose, not sure I could be bothered for just us four.
Lake Ontario, Flora and a crossing a bridged river |
We carried on walking for about an hour and finally hit a beach - like we haven't had enough time on beaches recently! The boys skimmed and we all paddled (much cooler than Lake Huron, I wonder why that is?). We sat and ate our cereal bar and water and watched the Kite Surfers do tricks and the beginner Wind Surfer trying to get on his board. There was plenty of entertainment, including watching Rhys Ifans lookalike with his little kite.
The lake, skimming and a great sign - my favourite is NO OBNOXIOUS OR ANNOYONG BEHAVIOUR |
Skimming, paddling, stick pointing and a waterfall log! |
After a nice long relax, we made our way back slowly to the car. It got hotter and more humid and we attempted to look at the splash pads and outdoor swimming pool. You have to pay separately for this and it was fenced off so we couldn't see but it is supposed to be quite a set up.
We drove out passing hundreds of cars waiting in a queue to get in, and tried to find an ice cream place. The first one was closed, the second one was a frozen yoghurt bar and then we found one we normally take Grandad to. Their was live entertainment and we stayed to listen. It was one man, various instruments, a backing track and many hats. Each time he played a different style of music, he changed his hat. He wasn't fantastic at any instrument or singing and we wondered if the hat changing was a distraction. We left shortly after our ice creams and came home.
Small still has the best ice cream face |
We all played a game of Lego Creation (one of our Thrifty Shop finds) and the the kids played a Nerf Battle outside while I made dinner and Huffle made scones.
Captain Sensible and Hercule Poirot |
After dinner we had a storm. 90mph winds, torrential rain, thunder and lightning and it was so dark the solar lights came on at just 5:45pm. We ended up in the basement, partly to keep Huffle company and partly to keep cool. OUCH MY HEAD HURTS FROM THE PRESSURE!
