Wasp Update: I can't believe it but the damn nest is still sitting on the piece of wood. There is not much of the nest left and yet still there are loads of wasps living and working in it. Huffle has now bought some wasp spray that can be used several metres away from the nest. After the sun has gone down, he will spray it, douse it with water and lean the piece of wood on the floor. What a saga.
A nice lie-in and an easy morning for the whole house. Still hot outside but not as humid though. Did have a but more rain mid afternoon (still need more).
Everyone helped to get the pool clean today(Still cloudy and a bit green) and we also cleared up the veggie patch a bit more. We managed to get a small harvest of peas (being eaten by rabbits), raspberries (being eaten by chipmunks) red currants and beans (being eaten by something).
NORMAN |
Smallest found a frog and named him Norman. Apparently Norman went on the trampoline, in the frog pond, on Smallest's pot frog and who knows where else. Poor thing. When Snallest put him the pond thigh he did stay there for a quite a while and did look quite at home. He's not there now though. I asked Snallest if he was sure he could get out and he said "oh yes he's already got out once"!! Oh Dear!
All of us did some work in the front garden. Small cut down dead things, Smallest collected weedsand emptied the weed carrier and Huffle and I weeded. It looks much better and we even had several visits from Harry Hummingbird later in the day.
Buddleja, Lily, rudbeckia, Monarda, echinacea, sweet pea |
....and more loveliness. Sunflower, coreopsis, mallow, flox, |
Working hard |
Dinner out in our local town beckoned us today and we watched the baseball whilst eating, plus finding out about transfers from the Manager of the pub.
Smallest loves eating lemons despite the face he pulls!!! |
While we were out and about we visited the Consignment Store (which is closing down - Moo and Grandma will be disappointed) but found nothing and the Thrifty Store (where we bought Snowboard Boots for Small, two games, two pairs of shorts for Huffle and a hand push lawn mower - BARGAINS). We popped to the supermarket and picked up a pool thermometer, chemicals, a new school bag for Small and Tomato Feed.
Back home we found the pool water was overflowing as I had left the hose filling it up - WHOOPS. Bet the wasps weren't too happy. The tomatoes and chilli's were fed, a game was played and then Huffle and I sat on the porch and enjoyed the late afternoon/early evening sunshine while the boys played inside.
I had to send the boys outside for a run around the garden to get their sillies out before tea, which we had whilst watching the end of Box Trolls (very good film - recommend).

We had a wasp nest once in a shed....Craig attached an ant powder canister to the tree loppers (he didn't want to stand on a ladder....too close!) and tipped it in and ran!......all dead/gone in the morning 😃
