Zoo zoo zoo - how about you?

The boys have been asking to go to the zoo for ages so today I decided we would go. We had a quick breakfast, packed a lunch and were out of the house by 10am (not bad considering I didn't get up until just before 9am). We were interrupted in the night by a little man who had a nightmare about robbers breaking in again. I talked to him while he snuggled in our bed and then just as I fell asleep, a little hand tapped me on the shoulder and asked if he could go back to his bed. I took him back and settled him in and a had a cross look at the dream catcher for not doing its job!

The Toronto Zoo is supposed to be a 25 minute drive from our house but today the one road that leads to the zoo was blocked by a police car so we carried on past hoping the sat nav would re-route us but it just kept telling us to turn around. So we turned around and asked MrPoliceman the way. He told us he had just directed the car in front of us so we could follow him. I shouted out of the window IS IT OKAY IF I FOLLOW YOU? And we went on our journey. The road we ended up taking was much further and out of our way but we got there before 11am. The car park was full of cars and the zoo was packed. Luckily it is quite big so there is room for all.

After a queue to pay and get in, we headed for Indo-Malaya where we saw some funny baby pig rhinos and a big Rhino sat in a big water hole. We went into the Indo-Malayan Pavillion where we had butterflies and birds flying around us. One of the butterflies landed on Small's top. We also saw snakes, fish and frogs in the African Rainforest Pavillion.

We carried on through the African Savannah and saw the Giraffes, Hippos (one lounging in the pool and one moved him and a log out of the way in order for him to get in too). We saw the Rhinos again, Zebra, and then towards the Tundra Trek where we saw the Polar Bears. They weren't feeding so they weren't swimming or doing much really which was disappointing but I guess they can't perform all day.

Small has never been in the Mayan Temple Ruin and wanted to see the spider monkies so that was our next stop. Somewhere on the way we snook a small ice cream and had our lunch in the shade of a big tree. We then saw Frogs, Otters, Turtles, Owls and Flamingoes and went off to the Eurasia Wilds. Here we saw parrots, Capybaras, Snakes, Fish, Camels, Lizards, a huge Falcon and a Snow Leopard as well as Mountain Goats which Small particularly liked.

We all decided we wanted to see the Gorillas being fed so despite the fact we had walked for miles and miles and were very tired and hot, we walked back to the Africa Savannah just in time to watch a baby gorilla trying to steal the Walkie talkie out of the feeders pocket. There were a lot of people watching so it was hard to see and hear but we did see a stick insect land on a lady's top right beside us.

As the Pandas were near to the exit, we decided to quickly see them but of the two Giant Pandas, one was asleep and the other was too far away to get a good photo. We also popped back to see the giraffes.

We sent Smallest through the splash Pad to cool off and headed for the car. Luckily the original road had reopened so it was a lot quicker getting home. The granite people were visiting tonight to give us a quote but they were stuck in traffic so I got home in plenty of time. We had a brilliant time at the zoo but it was very very tiring.

Three Chinese people turned up from the Granite Company. Two men who didn't speak any English and a girl who did. They measured and spoke a lot of Chinese to each other and then finally gave us a quote and answered all of our questions. They asked if we were going to pay the deposit today but we said we needed to sort things out before deciding. They include a sink but no taps and full installation. At least we have a price now. We are going to get another quote from a shop and see how different they are.

Huffle took us out for a bit to eat as we were all tired and hungry and while we were out we picked up a few things for tomorrow. Smallest has a football festival and we are out for a good chunk of the day.
