Picnic, Pit and a Poorly Boy

Our day started with an unexpected power cut. Just a small one that didn't really interrupt anyone. Once breakfast had finished, Huffle went and painted the rest of the Pool Deck while Small and I cleared away the inflatables, chairs, tables and umbrellas. We are thinking of closing the pool now even though there are a few nice days ahead. It is leaking from the pump now and we are putting in too much water, plus all the leaves are falling into it!

Smallest sorted through some magazines and puzzles and then both boys played on their DS' while I painted a sunflower I found on the barn. It was very grey and faded and I'm guessing it must have once been coloured.

The weather was glorious so we decided to make up a picnic and go to the beach. We chose the beach with the park and the lovely walk alongside the lake and ended up sitting on he beach on a log with our lunch. It was lovely.

Then it started getting really busy (which is very unusual for that part). We moved away and started to walk and scoot towards the park for an ice cream. It was soon evident that it was busy for a good reason. There was a walk for Parkinson's going on today. There were a lot of people all walking the opposite way to us and the park was full. The ice-cream shop was closed (they missed a lot of hot people today) and the path we wanted to walk on was closed due to resurfacing. The boys had a quick go on the park but were annoyed because lots of silly kids were blocking the slides and climbing up the wrong way.

We went back the way we came and walked about 4km along the lake passing many of the people we had passed before having done half of their walk and coming back again.

The boys kept stopping and resting on the side of the paths until Huffle and I caught up with them.

When we got back to the car, we drove to an ice-cream place and we had a little stroll across a bridge, played pooh sticks and watched the fishermen. Then we drove home.

We decided, as it was so nice, to have a fire pit. Huffle moved the BBQ down to the pit and we prepared the food and took everything down to the bottom of the garden. The boys helped to set up the chairs, get the fire going and the food was put on the BBQ.

Bottom Right: small dropped his marshmallow in the fire!!!

We sat in the baking hot sun, next to a fire pit - are we mad? Smallest didn't want to eat and picked at his food and started to get paler and paler. He said his tummy hurt and sat very quietly. We roasted marshmallows on our new roasting forks. They were yummy.

Smallest decided to go in and have his shower but he never got there. He was very sick on the grass - it reminded me of David Walliams as Anne!! Huffle moved everything inside and I went to sort out Smallest. Poor little lamb, he looked so poorly. He cleaned his teeth and went straight to bed (6pm - very early). I read to him and he quickly fell asleep. No school for him tomorrow - they are not allowed back to school until 24 hours have passed after being sick. So now I have Huffle and Smallest at home.

Small had his shower and watched TV. Huffle and I tackled a couple of wasps nests we have. He bought some spray today but one of them I knocked down and there was nothing in it and another one Huffle knocked down and there were loads so we ran in quick! We have another one in the ornamental pump handle on top of the well and I am worried that we can't spray that in case it goes into our water. (We get our water from our own deep dug well). There is another nest that is under the felt tiles on top of the sun room just over the back door. They are not bothering us at the moment so we are going to leave them and hope that they go when it gets cooler and don't come back.

Mice, Bats, wasps, Mosquitoes, Raccoons, Chipmunks. Anything else?

My beautiful Hydrangea Perniculata starting to flower.

..and I know this is a weed and it's dead, but it's beautiful.

You can't beat a toasted marshmallow, unless of course you are sick. Get well soon little man xx

Lovely photos, lovely day until Smllest poorly, hope he better soon. Reminded me of Buck Pal garden party with mum when several posh well dressed ladies were sick on the lawns and walked off, and the footmen cleared up behind them!
