Off target

Huffle worked from home and the boys went to school. Temperatures were about -2 (windchill -9) but a sharp cold wind. We Skyped LizzieDotDot and got to see little baby Griselda. She is gorgeous and so tiny.

Moo (on her last full day before she goes home) and I went off to finish our shopping. We travelled to Whitby and bought Huffle's birthday present, stopped off for a coffee and a people watch and wandered around Target. Target is an American chain with inexpensive things in. All sorts of stuff from clothes to furnishings, toiletries to wrapping paper. They have been in Canada for only 22 months. Canadians apparently hate it because it's American and a lot of people are quite snobbish about it because it's not an expensive brand name place. I personally like it. The clothes are okay and seem well made and the homewares are nice and good value. They are about to pull out of Canada because they are losing money. The stores they are in are huge and roomy but they are never busy. We wondered about buying a notice board type thing (which we should have because they only had one and it would have been perfect and I don't suppose they will get more because they are leaving!). We picked up a new laundry bag and some utensils from the Kitchen shop and had a peruse around Homesense in the hope of finding some boots for Moo (we didn't).

We had a late lunch in a Portugese Bakery where we bought some goodies for later and then did a food shop before heading home in time for a cup of tea and something nice before the kids got home.

They had both had a good day and started preparing for their piano lessons as well as playing table tennis with Moo. Their lessons went well. I made Moo a Lemon Curd to take home and a Red Onion Sweet Chilli Relish for our stocks. After dinner, Moo and Smallest played table tennis again and catch and piano and Small, Huffle and I played a game of Buccaneers. I won.

The boys should have been going to Beavers and Scouts tonight but it was scheduled as a Toboganning and Skating night at one the leaders houses. Huffle said that the driveway was treacherous with so many people driving on it, there was not enough snow for it to be a safe event, the leaders don't actually Marshall the event very well and take little responsibility and we were worried about Smallest getting hurt (as he has done twice there before) and having to miss football tomorrow night. Therefore we talked the kids out of going (by promising them that as soon as we have enough snow we will be going sledging properly).

She hasn't gone yet!

Target is very popular here. I buy lots of the kids clothes from target and some of mine, as well as toys at birthday and Christmas time. Silly Canadians!
